Job Description

We are on the hunt for a highly motivated, results-driven marketer with a knack for supporting sales and a background in higher education or publishing. The chosen candidate will be instrumental in crafting and executing a suite of marketing campaigns designed to elevate the Emerald brand across Europe, fostering engagement and driving sales.

This role also requires strategic marketing expertise with project responsibilities. We need someone to work with the Regional Marketing Lead to grow and develop the regional marketing function to support the growth of the company.

Location: We perform at our best when we feel trusted and are able to choose an approach to working that suits us best, which is why we are a remote-first company. However, we also believe in face to face collaboration, and our UK colleagues meet once a month for team time and quarterly for company get togethers in our Leeds office, so we ask that you be within a commutable distance that you are comfortable with in order to attend the office on those occasions.

Day to day we’ll trust you to:

  • Plan and execute marketing activity to support sales and content usage in Europe.
  • Align activity to the Europe regional sales team strategy.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to inform strategic planning and execution of marketing activities.
  • Develop and lead projects to support the overall regional marketing strategy and to set the team up for success.
  • Champion the Emerald brand, articulating our position of real impact within the industry.
  • Tell the story of the importance of business and social science research and Emerald’s commitment to it.
  • Ensure regional web pages on emeraldgrouppublishing.com are relevant and up-to-date.
  • Experiment with a variety of organic and paid channels: website, social, face to face, email, advertising, sponsorship, webinars.
  • Manage our attendance at industry events ensuring a strong Emerald representation.
  • Serve as the primary marketing liaison for the Europe Sales team.
  • Oversee a regional marketing budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation and expenditure.

You’ll need to have:

  • Previous experience as a marketing manager, ideally in a related industry; publishing or academic experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to create a marketing plan that builds awareness and drives leads.
  • An understanding of successful and modern marketing techniques.
  • Marketing skills: campaign strategy, copywriting, communication, data analysis, multi-channel marketing, lead nurturing and creativity.
  • Numerical skills: be comfortable working with numbers, making sense of metrics and processing figures.
  • Knowledge of email systems, ideally Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (paid and organic) and social scheduling platforms.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • The ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects whilst maintaining stable performance under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

It’s more than just skills and experience, this is what we’d like to see:

  • An innovative thinker, willing to experiment with new ideas.
  • A proactive, enthusiastic team player who is able to positively take ownership of their area and inspire the same in others.
