Location

With our Flexible First working arrangements we empower our colleagues to work in a way that best suits them – meaning location doesn’t need to be a barrier. You will be expected to travel to your local office once a week, but the role is primarily based from home.

Employee Relations Manager

Accountabilities

  • Manages Employee Relations cases, in line with ER policy.
  • Provides specialist and technical expertise through ER case management.
  • Provides ER input to key projects and business initiatives as required.
  • Escalates complex cases to Senior ER Managers or the Head of UK Employee Relations as appropriate.
  • Establishes strong working relationships with leaders at all levels of seniority across the business, providing valuable insight into ER matters in their business areas.
  • Monitors own performance against service standards.
  • Coaches Line Managers on management of ER issues, ensuring complete understanding and developing their knowledge, confidence and capability.
  • Works in collaboration with other support functions and external partners (e.g. Legal, Compliance, Health & Wellbeing) to ensure effective and timely delivery of ER services.
  • Proactively uses case management technology to record and maintain accurate records of all referred ER cases.
  • Identifies and updates knowledge management articles and content for access by ER colleagues, HR Community and Line Managers.
  • Ensures compliance with legal or regulatory changes.
  • Leads Early Conciliation cases by working with ACAS to reach satisfactory resolution and support legal partners and the business in preparing for Employment Tribunals.
  • Shares lessons learnt from all employment tribunals and complex ER cases with the team.
  • Works in collaboration with our recognised Trade Union colleagues.

Competencies and Qualifications

  • An established HR professional with a passion for ER and a strong background in the specialism.
  • Clear focus on customer service, ensuring we are delivering in line with business requirements and expectations.
  • Strong track record in helping leaders through performance management, driving cases to the best outcome.
  • Excellent stakeholder management with the ability to adapt to different styles and approaches, quickly building strong and effective working relationships, delivering service excellence.
  • Knowledge of relevant UK employment legislation and best practice, with an appetite for keeping abreast of change.
  • Proactively seeks to understand both external and internal ER trends and issues, to inform continuous improvement strategies.
  • Expertise providing ER support, coaching and case management to all levels in the organisation.
  • Experience working in a shared service organisation.
  • Can operate in, and lead activities in a project environment, working closely with colleagues across the HR function and wider business to deliver successful ER interventions in support of organisational change.
  • Works independently and demonstrates sound judgment with little day-to-day supervision.
  • Passion for continuous improvement, with experience of working on own initiative to implement change.
  • Experience of analysing information to resolve complex and challenging problems, applying logic and experience.
  • The ability to assess consequences and risks, making well balanced decisions.
  • Tenacious, and enjoys working in a fast paced, and sometimes ambiguous, environment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in an HR-related field.

Work Experience

  • Experience providing ER support either as an HR generalist or ER specialist.
  • Experience partnering with all levels of an organization in the successful delivery of ER services.
  • Previous experience of working with Trade Unions is preferred.


Certifications

  • CIPD qualification preferred.
