Job Description

The Role

We have embarked on an ambitious new development phase to advance our technology, including platform re-architecture and further development of our front-end services. It’s an exciting time and we need to strengthen and grow our teams!

As Platform Engineer, you will join our platform engineering team responsible for our developer experience. You will enable our teams to build our new infrastructure, leveraging AWS cloud services to operate our SOA platform composed of frontend & backend services for our customers, partners, and business users.

Accountabilities

As a member of our PRE team, you will contribute to the following goals:

  • Working within our Platform Reliability team you will assist in enabling our development teams to deliver new software features in a continuous and reliable manner
  • Support our online infrastructures deployed to AWS and maintain our QA/Staging/Production environments
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new systems or infrastructures
  • Provide the necessary tools, workflows and knowledge to development teams working on our infrastructure
  • Play an active role in the development process, for example by collaborating with software engineers to share your expertise and knowledge of our systems, and assist them when infrastructure changes are required to support upcoming releases
  • Guide development teams to help them take ownership of their services and for them to provide on-call and out-of-hours support

Some key skills and experience you’ll need...

Technical skills:

  • Work experience as a Platform/Cloud/DevOps Engineer role
  • Proficient in cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP, AWS preferred
  • Strong Linux Administration and scripting in an IaaS platform (eg. AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Good understanding and practical knowledge of Terraform or a similar tool to manage infrastructure as code
  • Good understanding of Cloud security models and best practices
  • Experience managing a highly available infrastructure deployed on an IaaS platform to maintain a high availability of the overall infrastructure
  • Experience working with Kubernetes, containers and CI/CD pipelines

Human skills:

  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Be a keen and voluntary team player with good interpersonal skills

While not essential, these skills would also be beneficial:

  • Experience working with AWS technologies like API gateways, Lambdas, Appmesh.
  • Practical knowledge of Jenkins 2, maintaining Groovy code and using declarative pipelines.
  • Experience developing or working with auto-scaling systems.
  • Good knowledge of a high-level programming language (for example Python, Ruby, Groovy)
  • Working knowledge of Agile development methodologies (Scrum or Kanban) and tooling, like JIRA and Confluence.
