Our Strategic Capabilities team is a Center of Excellence (CoE) that supports senior leaders in Mars to build those capabilities most critical to achieving their strategic objectives. This role supports that mission by performing organizational development work that includes diagnosing, defining, and deploying solutions across operating model and governance, organization design, value chain and interaction modeling of workflows, mindsets and behaviors alignment, upskilling, and workforce planning. Our team, like Mars, is global and our work spans all three of Mars’ businesses: Snacking, Food & Nutrition, and Petcare. These businesses include varied business models from consumer-packaged goods (CPG) to direct to consumer (D2C) to veterinary health services. We are a one-stop-shop within Mars for expertise required to develop organizational capabilities.

This role works as a trusted organizational development advisor and partner to senior leaders with their P&O (HR) business partners to discover, diagnose, and define capability maturity using a holistic framework and approach. The role collaborates with business facing Strategic Capability Partners, other Mars CoEs, Mars Global Services (MGS), Mars functions, and, in some cases, external consulting firms to identify and prioritize capability needs to then build and execute a roadmap to close identified gaps and embed within the organization. In the scope of this partnership, the role will perform work addressing skills gaps whose outcomes flow into MGS Learning in support of upskilling and learning solutions.

The Accelerator will bring a consultative mindset to conversations to help the organization build resilience and adaptability to future market demands.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Preferred) in areas such as Human Resources, Psychology, Organizational Development) or equivalent experience

  • Extensive experience in Organizational Development, P&O, P&O BP, talent and/or learning roles

  • Experience as consultant is a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service, working closely with senior leaders

  • Proven track record leveraging methodologies and frameworks to design capability development interventions

  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and problem solving

  • Exceptional ability to coordinate and manage multiple client engagements simultaneously with competing priorities and perspectives

  • Experience working across geographies and cultures

  • Ability to facilitate workshops and co-creation sessions with various stakeholders

  • Strong understanding of leading capability development practices and strategy elements

  • A strong stakeholder focus with action orientation

  • Expertise in employee skill building, strategic workforce planning, and learning and development preferred

  • Experience as an HR Business partner or similar role with a strong business focus / acumen and value creation driven approach preferred

  • Experience working in Agile / project based teams

What will be your key responsibilities?

The Accelerator will drive the capability building agenda throughout the organization by partnering closely with business leaders, P&O (HR) business partners, and related stakeholders to assess and diagnose future capability building needs and gaps. The role will offer deep expertise in strategic capabilities including assessing, diagnosing, planning, building, and executing data driven organizational development roadmaps to achieve business strategy objectives.

Capability Assessment

  • Determine ideal state of organizational capabilities based on input from business and senior stakeholders, learners, subject matter experts (SMEs), external data and insights, and external experts and thought leaders

  • Assess opportunities to grow capabilities in the context of the Strategy or transformation agenda by using quantitative and qualitative diagnosis methods to surface potential gaps in a combination of 5 domains that comprise an organizational capability: Process, Tools & Technology, Organization, Culture, Skills.

  • Once gaps are assessed, define needed interventions, appropriate measures/KPIs, and a roadmap to close capability gaps.

  • Align and contract the roadmap to close Capability gaps with senior stakeholders

  • Execute the roadmap in partnership with P&O (HR), MGS, Finance, and related stakeholders and enablers of change

Talent, Culture, Rewards (TCR) and Mars Global Services Learning (MGSL) Partnership

  • When initiatives to close identified gaps include TCR and/or MGSL domains, define the objectives to inform fit for purpose TCR and/or MGS Learning interventions.

  • Consult with TCR and MGSL through creation of a strategy for the identified initiatives and alignment of best options for design, development and deployment of identified solutions.

  • Drive clarity and build consensus across multiple stakeholders (TCR Leads and their teams, College Deans, function and business SME’s, MGSL, etc.)

  • As needed, consult with TCR and/or MGSL on implementation strategies to ensure integrity of the initiatives
