Founded in 2017, Laka set out to transform insurance by connecting passionate cyclists to form a collective and protect their bikes for when things go wrong - a better model for insurance was born. For once, people come first in insurance by fairly sharing the cost amongst each other. We exist to rewrite the rules of insurance so it’s something people stand with, not against.

Our model: Laka makes sure everything runs smoothly for The Collective - with exceptionally fast claims, splitting the cost fairly, guaranteeing a maximum price and all the other heavy lifting of a regulated insurance business. For that service, the collective pays Laka a fee relative to the claims in a month.

🤘🏼 The role

This role is pivotal in connecting the business with finance. It’s a mixture of traditional FP&A (think budgets, forecasts, reporting) and strategic projects (think acquisitions, product & pricing, risks & opportunities).

You will be the ‘go to’ for financial analysis and provide invaluable insights to the business and its stakeholders, both internally and externally.

You’ll report into the VP Finance and work very closely with the leadership team. Learning, development and coaching are core to Laka; you’ll be given opportunities to grow your finance career and be a part of Laka’s future success.

Financial Forecasting & Reporting

  • Lead forecasting, planning, and budgeting processes to drive strategic decision-making and financial performance.
  • Own budget inputs and build robust analysis with business areas. Continuous design, maintenance & evolution of our financial models.
  • Prepare the management and board reporting packs; presenting components to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with our investors; keeping them up to date with Laka’s performance and financials in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support the wider finance team with month-end close; including billing, performance outlooks and reporting. Working across P&L, balance sheet & cash flow statements.

Business Partnering

  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support initiatives, investment decisions, and business performance evaluations.
  • Understand Laka’s performance drivers, using financial and operational analysis to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Utilise data visualisation best practices to tell stories, highlight trends, and communicate key insights to stakeholders.
  • Assess the financial viability of new products, pricing changes and entering new markets.
  • Cost control; develop appropriate analysis to understand our cost base and challenge inefficiencies in spend.

Requirements

👉🏻 This role will be a great fit if you:

  • Have already spent some time in a FP&A or Finance Business Partner role before, ideally in a growing start/scale-up.
  • Are a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or other overseas equivalent)
  • Are proficient in financial modelling, forecasting, and budgeting techniques.
  • Are “data driven” - you feel comfortable working with large datasets in a structured, logical way.
  • Have a strategic mindset with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
  • Have an outstanding ability to network and build relationships at various levels in the business.
  • Are a self-starter and like getting “stuck in” - we’d love to see you take the initiative and seek out problems to be solved.
  • Have experience using tools like Google Sheets & Slides, Notion, and similar.
  • Have an interest in advanced data technologies like Tableau, Power BI and similar.

Location: Laka works primarily on a remote-first basis, however this role would benefit from being based in our London office (London Bridge) 3 days per week.
