You might not have heard of us yet - that's OK, you've found us now - come and find out more about our journey...
Founded in 2017, Laka set out to transform insurance by connecting passionate cyclists to form a collective and protect their bikes for when things go wrong - a better model for insurance was born. For once people come first in insurance by fairly sharing the cost amongst each other. We exist to rewrite the rules of insurance so it’s something people stand with, not against.
Our model: Laka makes sure everything runs smoothly for The Collective - from exceptionally fast claims, splitting the cost fairly, guaranteeing a maximum price and all the other heavy lifting of a regulated insurance business. For that service, the collective pays Laka a fee relative to the claims in a month.

What have we been up to since then...?
In a nutshell, we've been very busy! Here are a few of the massive achievements we've had:
🚀 Raised awesome investment of over £20m to-date
🚀 Grown the team to over 60 Lakanauts, based across the UK, NL & France, enabling a choice-based, remote-first way of working
🚀 Launched Laka in lot of new European countries, essentially helping more people in more places!
🚀 Captured the UK and NL enthusiast cyclist market and expanded into commercial business partnering
🚀 Been awarded 'Best Cycle Insurance Provider' (for the past 6 years in a row - go us! 🥳)
🚀 Opened 3 shiny new offices in London, Bristol & Amsterdam to provide spaces for people to collaborate as they like, when they like
🚀 We've also achieved great reviews on Google Reviews and Glassdoor - go check us out!
Flexible working at Laka
If we had to put a label on it, we'd class Laka as 'remote-first', but it's so much more than that...
Essentially we're fully flexible, and based completely on choice.
We:
👉🏻 Don't mind how often you want to be in our offices - work from home 5 days per week if you like, it's your call
👉🏻 Do have 3 amazing office spaces that we'd love you to come and join us in - but no pressure, they're there if and when you want to use them
👉🏻 Are in Runway East locations in the UK - dogs, cake, events... what's not to love?!
👉🏻 Don't have fixed start and finish times - sure, most people tend to work a pretty standard working pattern, but we're not so fussed, as long as the work gets done
👉🏻 Support you spending time working abroad - we don't put a limit on this (as long as it doesn't create tax problems!), we just make sure you can still deliver what you need to
We also have plenty of opportunities to come together in person to spend time getting to know each other, and having some good old-fashioned fun. We love being able to work in a way that suits us all day-to-day, and meet up for the moments that really matter.
Approach to diversity & inclusion
We've worked really hard to make sure Laka supports each and every one of our customers - giving them the opportunity to pick & choose the level of cover that's right for them, and the option to leave us whenever they like (although we hope they don't!).
And we also approach diversity, inclusion and belonging in the same way with our Lakanauts.
Our gender diversity stats (*as at Jan 2024)
- Total gender split: 68% male, 32% female
- Leadership group gender split: 69% male, 31% female
How are we making improvements?
👉🏻 Regular pay reviews, for everyone in all roles: Ensuring we pay fairly for the role, accountabilities, skills & experience level
👉🏻 More females in senior roles: Increased from 0% in 2021 to 31% in 2024
👉🏻 Having a remote-first (or choice-based) working environment: We're super flexible in the way we work, supporting all types of care-givers
👉🏻 Re-vamped hiring processes: All hiring pipelines must include female candidates, and we ensure there are no all-male assessment processes
We have some more work to do as Laka continue to grow, but we have some good foundations in place that will enable us to do even more activities to make sure Laka is a place where people feel happy, treated equitably and feel like they can belong.

We love the autonomy Laka give their team and how much they value flexibility. If you want to work at a company with dog friendly offices, early finish Fridays and the choice of working from the office or at home, Laka is the company for you !
