Senior Colleague Communications Manager

Permanent

Dublin

Reporting to: People Director

Bord Gáis Energy is one of Ireland’s leading energy and service companies. We supply gas, electricity, and energy services to over 700,000 homes and businesses across the country, offering excellent customer service as well as the best value possible. Bord Gáis Energy is uniquely positioned to drive positive change and we have an opportunity, as well as a responsibility, to reshape our future. We’re powered by our purpose, and we all play a vital role in energising a greener, fairer future. While there are challenges ahead, we are dedicated to supporting our consumers and colleagues, to rethinking power generation, and to supporting an affordable and fair transition for all.

The Senior Colleague Communications Manager will lead the development and delivery of our internal communication strategy to engage and enthuse our Bord Gáis Energy colleagues in our strategy, purpose, and progress as part of the broader Centrica group.

You’ll partner directly with the People Director, Managing Director, and their leadership team to strengthen communications and engagement with all colleagues within the business. This will include the development of a compelling and meaningful internal narrative and creative, impactful colleague communications for Bord Gáis Energy that supports the business objectives, creates a positive and inclusive culture, and aligns to the overarching Centrica strategy and purpose.

Working closely with colleagues from across the broader Bord Gáis Energy business and Centrica as a whole, you’ll lead multiple engagement and communication projects, initiatives, and campaigns to increase colleague engagement and performance. You’ll lead specialised and creative work directly to ensure that we deliver the intended outcomes for colleague engagement. This will require you to manage multiple projects and stakeholders at any one time to ensure delivery of outcomes.

This vital role will require a strong strategic thinker who will drive improved impact and engagement and bring the objectives and progress of Bord Gáis Energy to life for all colleagues with a forward looking and long-term communications strategy. You’ll also support the development and delivery of Centrica Group-wide engagement and communication initiatives as required in support of the overall Centrica strategy.

In this role you’ll report directly to the People Director, with an additional reporting line to the Director of Colleague Communications in Centrica. You’ll work hand in hand with the People Director for Bord Gáis Energy, forming part of their virtual People team squad, and will also need to establish close working relationships with the wider Colleague Communications team across Centrica.

About the Role

  • Work with stakeholders from across Bord Gáis Energy and colleagues in other areas of Centrica to define, develop and deliver multi-channel creative, impactful internal communications and engagement activities to bring the Bord Gáis Energy plans to life and help colleagues understand our objectives and progress
  • Effective planning and measurement to ensure that we reduce the volume of communications across Bord Gáis Energy and drive greater reach, impact and quality across all activity
  • Advise and coach senior leaders within the business to enable them to be better communicators and engage their audiences

  • Research and implement best practice and the latest external thinking across content and channels to drive continuous improvement
  • Develop a detailed understanding of our audiences and stakeholders to build awareness and identify new, improved approaches

About You

  • Highly creative, strategic thinker with excellent communication skills including the ability to write creative copy
  • Aware of the latest creative thinking, techniques and approaches and able to work with specialists where appropriate to produce content
  • Team player with the ability to work in a virtual team across geographical and functional boundaries
  • Proven track record of building successful, collaborative relationships across all levels and business functions
  • Able to work with complex information and translate it into simple and engaging content and activities
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence and challenge at all levels including board, executive committee, and key external stakeholders
  • Proven appetite for professional development and continuous improvement

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing society and the energy sector has a key role to play in helping the world transition to net zero. As one of Ireland’s leading energy and services companies, we’re on a journey of transformation; to accelerate our positive impact and bring our customers on this journey with us. As we look to the future we're transforming our energy supply, services and solutions in order to become a leading net zero business in Ireland by 2045 and to help our customers reach net zero by 2050. Our ambition is to use our services, footprint and propositions to better both people and planet.

Bord Gáis Energy are committed to placing equality, diversity, care and respect at the heart of our policies and everyday practices. We encourage everyone to take part in our active employee networks, including the Women's network, REACH (Race, Ethnicity, & Cultural Heritage) network, Neurodiversity network, and BRÓD, our LGBTQ+ network. We're proud of the work our networks and allies do to help us promote a culture of inclusion, empowering our colleagues to be themselves and do their best work. Our vision is to employ a diverse mix of people who reflect the societies we work in and the customers we serve, so we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and perspectives.

Our Flexible First working model empowers our people to find a better balance between home and office working. You can enjoy the convenience of working from home combined with time spent onsite in a way that works for our customers, our business and you. Our office is used as a place to connect and collaborate with colleagues, rather than your default place of work each day.

Here in Bord Gáis Energy we’re helping to create a more sustainable and inclusive future that supports our communities, our planet – and each other. The prevention of family homelessness in Ireland is an area where we believe we can make a real difference and through our partnership with Focus Ireland, we have been working on making this a reality since 2015. We encourage all colleagues to get involved in the partnership, with everyone receiving 2 days' volunteering leave to participate in initiatives or events supporting Focus Ireland.
