Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

Director of Technology Strategy & Enterprise Architecture

At Centrica, technology underpins how we deliver our strategy.
You’ll join a team transforming our platforms, strengthening cyber and operational resilience, and embedding a product-led approach that brings engineers, data specialists and business experts together to deliver meaningful outcomes at pace.

We’re scaling automation and AI from proof of concept into real, end-to-end change – improving customer journeys, reducing cost to serve, accelerating delivery, and building the digital foundations that support everything from energy trading and risk to field operations and critical infrastructure.

If you want to solve complex, high-impact problems using modern engineering practices – and help shape the platforms that will define Centrica over the next decade – this is the place to do it.

An Opportunity to play your part

As Director of Technology Strategy & Enterprise Architecture, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the long-term technology direction of Centrica. Responsible for defining and evolving the enterprise technology strategy, you will ensure that our technology landscape enables business growth, transformation, operational excellence, and sustainable value creation. Working closely with senior business and technology leaders, you will provide strategic leadership across enterprise architecture, technology investment governance, applications, data, and platforms, driving coherence, simplification, and innovation across the organisation.

This is a highly influential leadership role, accountable for establishing the architectural foundations and governance frameworks that guide major technology decisions and transformation programmes. You will ensure technology investments are aligned to strategic objectives, support regulatory and audit commitments, and deliver a future-ready enterprise architecture that enables Centrica's long-term ambitions. Leading a team of architects and strategic technology specialists, you will champion best practice, foster collaboration across business and technology functions, and help shape the next generation of capabilities that power our organisation.

Day to day

  • Define and evolve Centrica's enterprise technology strategy, ensuring it supports business objectives, transformation programmes and long-term growth.
  • Translate business priorities into clear technology roadmaps, target architectures and investment plans that provide direction across the organisation.
  • Lead the Enterprise Architecture function, establishing architectural principles, standards and governance frameworks across applications, data and technology platforms.
  • Provide oversight and challenge on major technology initiatives, ensuring solutions align with the target architecture and support future business needs.
  • Govern technology investment decisions, balancing strategic value, risk, cost and operational effectiveness.
  • Drive simplification of the technology estate through application rationalisation, platform consolidation and the reduction of technical debt.
  • Develop and oversee transition roadmaps that move the organisation from its current architecture to a modern, scalable and sustainable future state.
  • Partner with the Group CIO, CTO, Business Unit CIOs and senior business leaders to shape technology priorities and strategic decision-making.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on technology direction, architecture, investment strategy, risk management and complex trade-offs.
  • Influence and align stakeholders across multiple business and technology functions to enable consistent enterprise-wide outcomes.
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of Enterprise Architects, building capability, architectural maturity and professional standards across the organisation.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, commercial thinking and pragmatic decision-making.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal delivery teams, product and platform leaders, and strategic technology partners to support successful execution of the technology strategy.

What we need from you

Experience & Expertise

  • Significant leadership experience in Enterprise Architecture and Technology Strategy within a large, complex, multi-business organisation.
  • Proven track record of defining technology strategies and translating business priorities into actionable roadmaps and investment plans.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise architecture across applications, data, integration, platforms and cloud technologies.
  • Experience governing large-scale technology portfolios and investment decisions, balancing value, risk and cost.
  • Demonstrated success delivering technology simplification, rationalisation and strategic transformation programmes.
  • Experience operating at executive level, influencing senior stakeholders and driving outcomes across organisational boundaries.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing architecture teams, with experience managing teams of 5+ direct reports.
  • Strong understanding of strategic planning, with experience delivering both long-term (1-5 year) vision and near-term execution.

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • TOGAF certification is essential.
  • Additional architecture or agile certifications, such as ArchiMate or SAFe, are desirable.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Outstanding communication, stakeholder management and executive influencing skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, assess complex challenges and make pragmatic decisions.
  • Proven capability to lead through influence rather than hierarchy.
  • Strong sense of ownership, with the drive to deliver results and see initiatives through to completion.
  • Deep knowledge of architecture, integration patterns and enterprise technology ecosystems.
  • Strong people leadership, coaching and team development skills.
  • Awareness of emerging industry trends, technologies and best practices.
  • Strategic mindset with a systems-thinking approach and the ability to balance short-term needs with long-term goals.
