Job Description

Whoosh is an exciting and fast-moving area of Tesco, helping customers get what they need, when they need it through our rapid delivery proposition.

We’re looking for a Senior UX Designer to join the team in London and play a key role in shaping the experience as Whoosh continues to evolve.

This is an opportunity to work on a high-profile digital product used by Tesco customers, solving complex problems and turning them into simple, intuitive experiences. You’ll lead UX across significant pieces of work, working closely with Product, Engineering, Research, UI and other teams to take ideas from discovery through to delivery.

You’ll have the space to influence how we do things, challenge thinking and champion user-centred design, while helping other designers develop along the way.

  • Leading the end-to-end UX design process, from understanding user needs and defining problems through to journeys, flows, prototypes, testing and implementation.
  • Putting customers at the heart of your thinking and using evidence and insight to create experiences that make things a little better and easier for them.
  • Working in partnership with Product Managers, Engineers, UX Researchers and UI Designers to turn customer and business needs into effective product experiences.
  • Planning and facilitating workshops, design sprints, peer reviews and collaborative sessions with a broad range of teams and stakeholders.
  • Creating journey maps, user flows, wireframes and prototypes to explore ideas, communicate interactions and validate potential solutions.
  • Using both qualitative and quantitative insight to inform your design decisions and measure the impact of changes.
  • Confidently presenting your thinking and design rationale, influencing stakeholders and constructively challenging where needed.
  • Working with and contributing to the Tesco Digital Design System to create consistent, accessible experiences.
  • Supporting and mentoring other designers, sharing your knowledge and helping to raise the quality of design across the wider team.
  • Looking for opportunities to improve how we research, design and deliver products, simplifying processes and helping the team work effectively.
  • Strong experience in UX or product design, ideally working on complex digital products or services.
  • A strong understanding of user-centred and human-centred design principles.
  • Experience taking UX work from discovery and research through to design, testing and delivery.
  • Strong skills across information architecture, journey mapping, user flows, wireframing and prototyping.
  • Experience using customer research, analytics and other data to inform and validate your decisions.
  • The ability to simplify complex customer and product problems and turn them into clear, intuitive experiences.
  • Confidence facilitating workshops and design reviews and working collaboratively across different disciplines.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to explain the why behind your design decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working closely with Product and Engineering teams in a product-led environment.
  • A collaborative approach and a willingness to coach, mentor and share knowledge with others.
  • Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is curious, customer-focused and comfortable working in a fast-moving product environment, where there is a real opportunity to influence what comes next.

You might know us as a supermarket, technology company or even for our award-winning mobile network. Truth is, we’re all of those things, and much more. Our colleagues work with one goal in mind, helping to make every day a little better for our customers, colleagues and communities all over the world. No two customers are the same, neither are our colleagues. At Tesco, we champion a balance that lets you thrive both in and out of work. Spend 60% of your week collaborating with colleagues at our office locations or local sites and the rest remotely. Whether you're just kicking off your career, juggling passions, or navigating big life events, we're here to support you. We always welcome a conversation about flexible working, so talk to us throughout your application about how we can support. We're proud to be an accredited Disability Confident Leader, where everyone’s welcome. That’s why we commit to providing a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process. If you need support with your application, click here for more information. And if you're interested in joining our team but don't tick every box, don't let that hold you back from applying. When you join us in this role, you'll be employed by Tesco Stores Limited, the Tesco legal entity responsible for your employment.
