Our Social Infrastructure (SI) portfolio is primarily a UK based business working in key sectors of Education, Public Health, Social Care and in other non infrastructure sectors with government and it’s agencies. Our work primarily delivers in areas where there is a significant social impact e.g. managing the annual £50M Adoption Support Fund on behalf of government or coordinating the Holidays, Activities and Food programme for vulnerable children throughout England.


Our vision, with your help, is to grow and deliver major Health and Adult Social Care projects as part of a global business and to establish our wide-ranging consultancy offer as credible and preferred for our existing and new clients.

We are currently looking for an Account Lead to encompass all current and potential work with clients in this sector across the region. This role is critical for building and maintaining Mott MacDonald’s relationships with new and existing clients, planning the accounts and building a client centric experience.

The PAL will be expected to win work, grow the account to maximise opportunity for Mott MacDonald, and be accountable for the delivery of excellent projects. PALs will provide support so that client’s projects are delivered to time, cost and quality and that Mott MacDonald is commercially successful. The PAL will play a lead role in developing trust with our SI company clients and key stakeholders.

PALs have a wide network of stakeholders to manage including client's representatives, Sector Leaders, Portfolio Leads, Resource Managers, Bid Principal/Manager, Project Manager and Practice Leaders. Where appropriate, they will work with and support Key Account Leaders where a client is complex and requires the attention of more than one Mott MacDonald Portfolio or Unit. This role will require close working and collaboration with the portfolio’s Major Prospects and Projects Manager, as well as colleagues across the Unit, especially in Strategic Advisory and Specialist portfolios.

This is a complex role, combining both operational and strategic challenges, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders across a growing sector. The ability to prioritise, influence without authority and collaborate is fundamental, substantiated by subject matter expertise and a drive for excellence and results.

Candidate Specification
Required criteria for the ideal PAL:

  • Ideally degree qualified in either a technical field and/or business degree.
  • Other degree qualifications considered if experience is aligned with our services.
  • Desirable qualifications and skills in: project delivery, programme management and business development.
  • Ability to initiate and develop client relationships for growing the sector and winning work. Driving a strategic approach to customer account management and the winning of work.
  • Previous experience having worked within the Health and Adult Social Care sectors is preferred but not essential.
  • A strong interest in this market space is essential.

Job Profile:
The Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers management services in all the sectors that Mott MacDonald operate in the Built Environment, Defence, Energy, Water, Transportation and, Education, Health and Care.

The Unit delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of Programme Management, Project Management, Project Controls, Scheduling, Cost Management, Estimating, Infrastructure Finance, Management Consulting, Digital Consulting and Education, Health and Care Management.

Our Social Infrastructure portfolio is primarily a UK based business working in key sectors of education, public health and social care. We deliver many key government policy through programmes such as the Adoption Support Fund, Quality Assurance of Education for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and the Holiday Activities and Food Programme.


The role will encompass the following;

  • Leading the Health and Adult Social Care portfolio in Social Infrastructure.
  • Developing strong and robust relationships with new and existing clients supported by client account management plans.
  • Supporting staff recruitment and growth of our accounts.
  • Identifying opportunities, converting them into firm prospects. (Tracked and managed)
  • Driving the bidding process, converting prospects into projects ensuring bids are technically and commercially sound.
  • Leading project delivery, engaging expertise where required from across the Unit and wider Mott MacDonald.
  • Managing risk and commercial performance on projects for their Accounts: A PAL may have several Bid and Project Principals reporting to them
  • Promoting account leadership across the wider business.
  • Complying with Mott MacDonald business management and quality assurance processes.
  • Working effectively with Technical Principals, and Sector/Practice Leaders to bring the right resources to deliver the project to client’s satisfaction while meeting additional Mott MacDonald project targets.
  • Running appropriate account meetings with client and senior level management involvement.
  • Taking steps to reduce the likelihood and impact of client issues.
