We are seeking a Senior Capital Manager who will support our Head of Capital in oversight, day-to-day management and in the development of the Capital Modelling Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified non-life capital actuary who wants to develop their leadership skills, have exposure to C-level stakeholders and be exposed to non-traditional actuarial work (60/40 mix of BAU to value add work).

Key Accountabilities:

Leading the delivery of the regulatory and economic capital results to the board.

This will involve:

  • Management of the capital team’s processes and delegating work across the team to ensure results are delivered in a robust and timely fashion.
  • Assisting the Head of Capital with analysis and review of model outputs.
  • Liaising with key stakeholders, and coordinating development, production and communication of results to exec committees. They will need to interpret and convincingly articulate the results of the modelling to internal and external audiences.

Additionally you will be involved with:

  • Contributing to non-traditional actuarial projects which involve advanced analytics in the Energy sector (Value Add projects). This will involve identifying opportunities to build bespoke forecasting models/GLMs/broaden the use of existing capital model to provide strategic insights about the business and support commercial decision making in the Energy sector.
  • Working alongside the Head of Capital to build strong relationships with our key stakeholders to ensure the business adopts a balanced approach towards prudential regulatory compliance and risk-optimised growth.
  • Advising the CUO/Commercial Team on pricing and underwriting optimisation-based risk/return profile of products.
  • Providing technical insurance advice to the Finance team to ensure the business meets Solvency II and financial reporting requirements.
  • Support the CFO in the delivery of the insurer’s financial performance and capital management (including repatriation of dividend to Centrica).
  • Providing day to day support to Risk Management i.e. providing advice on risk appetite framework, business planning and dividend proposal options.
  • Advising management on capital implications of strategic initiatives at group level.

Who are we looking for?

  • Strong skills in the management of both people and processes with a proven track record of delivering through others. The role will involve assisting the Head of Capital to lead a team of 6.
  • Good programming experience (VBA, SQL, R). The chosen candidate will be involved in non-traditional actuarial work which will require building bespoke forecasting models/GLMs for the wider group to support decision making.
  • Good communication skill as the role will have significant exposure to the leadership team (CRO/CFO/CUO) and the board.
  • Experience of non-life Capital Modelling techniques and analysis (Tyche or Igloo knowledge highly desirable). Subject to business case approval, we are looking to also do a platform change in the near future.
  • Good understanding of Solvency II requirements.
  • Proactive approach to improving processes and challenging the status quo.
