Energised Futures is a new research and innovation venture within Centrica, established to systematically explore the possible and catalyze Centrica’s purpose of energising a fairer, greener future. To do this, we’re building a dynamic and diverse team of researchers to perform cutting edge innovation across its core themes of flexibility, automation, connectivity, market, engagement, and access, and pairing this with a strong support team to publish and promote research activities, engage with other research institutions and energy innovators, and develop a portfolio of activities.
Based in Antwerp and London, recent investment in the team means we’ll be growing in scope, activities, size, and impact, giving newcomers to the team the chance to play a pivotal role in shaping the team and its processes, as it in turn shapes the roadmap for the wider organisation and industry.
The job
As project controller, you will support research activities through project management and financial control processes. You will act as the main interface to Centrica’s finance departments and support the team to comply with requirements from working on grant-funded projects.
Project Management:
Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables
Monitor project progress and performance, ensuring alignment with goals and objectives
Grant Compliance Enforcement:
Ensure all project activities comply with grant requirements and regulations
Prepare and submit necessary documentation and reports for grant compliance
Liaise with Financial Controls Team:
Coordinate with the financial controls team to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of project expenses
Facilitate communication and collaboration between project teams and financial departments
Budget Management and reporting:
Develop and manage the project budget, ensuring cost-efficiency and adherence to financial plans
Track expenses and implement cost control measures to prevent budget overruns
Performance Monitoring:
Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track project success
Identify and report deviations from the project plan, implementing corrective actions as needed
Risk Management:
Identify financial and operational risks associated with the project
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize impact
Process optimisation:
Support the team through continual improvement and optimisation of internal processes to empower individuals and increase efficiency while supporting innovative exploration
The ideal candidate
A financially minded project manager with experience handling technical, grant-funded projects and a knack for balancing disciplined process with pragmatic adaptation.

Managing Grant-Funded Projects:
Proven track record of managing projects funded by grants, ensuring compliance and successful delivery
Experience with the grant application process, reporting requirements, and financial management
Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in financial software and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, project management software)
Analytical Skills:
Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and project performance metrics
Communication Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and liaising with stakeholders
Risk Management:
Experience in identifying and managing financial and operational risks in projects
