About the role

The Organisation Design Specialist plays a key role in improving organisational effectiveness and ways of working, leading organisation design activity across change initiatives and operating model transformations from concept through to implementation.

You'll join the Design & Delivery Team, supporting a wide range of group-wide organisation design projects across BT. Working closely with People & Culture Partners, Directors and senior business leaders, you'll help shape effective organisational structures, operating models, governance frameworks and ways of working that support the delivery of business strategy.

This is a highly varied role where you'll work across projects of different sizes and complexity, partnering with stakeholders from across all functions.

You'll help champion organisation design best practice across People & Culture, sharing insights and driving consistent, high-quality delivery.

What you’ll be doing

  • Accountable for owning and delivering organisation design projects as part of BT's operating model transformation agenda.
  • Support senior stakeholders and People & Culture Partners through operating model transformations by facilitating current-state assessments, designing target operating models and contributing to transformation roadmaps across organisational structures, governance, decision-making, skills, capabilities and ways of working.
  • Provide organisation design and effectiveness expertise and coaching to senior business and People & Culture stakeholders, including interventions to address organisational, team and leadership challenges.
  • Lead regular and ad hoc reviews of organisation design best practice, bringing external insights and industry standards into BT.
  • Apply specialist knowledge and organisation design expertise to provide advice, guidance and practical solutions to business challenges.
  • Work collaboratively across a global, matrixed organisation, adapting your approach to different stakeholders and delivering successful outcomes.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Organisation Design & Operating Models: Experience assessing organisational structures, processes and capabilities, and designing effective operating models that improve organisational performance.
  • Stakeholder Management & Partnering: Ability to build trusted relationships and influence senior stakeholders across a large, complex organisation.
  • Storytelling, Influencing & Change: Able to communicate complex concepts clearly, create compelling cases for change and support successful adoption of new ways of working.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Systems Thinking: Sees organisations as interconnected systems and takes a holistic approach to solving complex challenges.
  • Commercial Acumen: Uses business knowledge and commercial awareness to inform decision making.
  • Data Analysis & Decision Making: Uses data and insight to make recommendations and prioritise effectively.
  • Job Analysis & Role Sizing: Experience of job architecture, job evaluation or role sizing methodologies.
  • Ownership & Accountability: Takes responsibility for outcomes and makes decisions that benefit the wider organisation.
  • Growth Mindset: Embraces learning, experimentation and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Able to translate complex organisational concepts and data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Consulting Experience: Experience within management consulting or an internal consulting environment desirable.
  • People & Culture / HR Experience: Experience working within organisation design, workforce planning or broader People & Culture functions.
