Job Description

We’re looking for a Principal Engineering Lead

About Brit

At Brit, we believe that the uncertainty of the future should never stand in the way of progress. That’s why we exist. To help people and businesses face the future and thrive. We are change-makers enabled by a global workforce who collaborate to deliver a risk service. A team empowered to help our customers not only to survive the risks they face, but to stay on the front foot and keep moving forward. We believe the uncertainty of tomorrow isn’t something to fear but to seize; that it’s full of potential. Not only for our customers but our employees too.

We might write the future of risk for our brokers and clients, but we would love to help you write your future at Brit: a future based on not just progressing but on thriving – both professionally and emotionally. If you’re looking for a place to make a real difference read on.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take the lead in establishing Engineering Excellence across Brit, combining deep technical expertise with people leadership to improve engineering standards, architecture, capability and delivery effectiveness across our domains. Working upstream of delivery, you’ll partner with senior colleagues in Product, Architecture, Infrastructure and Engineering to shape technology solutions, resolve technical unknowns and dependencies, and give delivery teams stronger foundations and clearer direction.

You’ll own and continually evolve our engineering operating model and Software Development Lifecycle, setting the principles, standards and guardrails that support secure, maintainable and resilient software deliver. You’ll also champion AI-native engineering, automation and AI-enabled tools to improve productivity, quality, speed and cost efficiency.

As a senior technical leader, you’ll build and develop a strong engineering leadership community through coaching, mentoring and line management. You’ll establish Centres of Excellence and Communities of Practice, foster collaboration and continuous learning, and act as a trusted adviser on complex technical decisions. By connecting engineering choices to business value, you’ll help Brit reduce waste, manage technical debt and deliver high-quality outcomes consistently and efficiently at scale.

We welcome everyone wholeheartedly

We’ve got a truly diverse, genuinely inclusive work environment. We comfortably and confidently bring our whole selves to work, because we know we’ll be respected, valued and accepted whoever we are. Our Employee Resource groups are safe spaces for people to share their experiences, aspirations and suggestions about how we do things.
