Job Description

We’re looking for a Financial Accounting Manager to lead our Customer Journey cash team, providing clear direction, coaching and development to ensure high performance, strong ownership and a robust control mindset across all activities. You’ll also be the key liaison with our fintech teams for new business projects, ensuring robust user acceptance testing and seamless integration of new revenue and cash feeds.

You’ll play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, process automation, and control enhancements, while supporting ASOS’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Details

  • Provide leadership to the Cash Accounting function, comprising one Senior Financial Accountant and two Financial Accountants.
  • Own the end-to-end cash element of the customer journey, from payment initiation through to bank settlement, reconciliation and reporting.
  • Manage and continuously improve the Group’s cash reconciliation processes, ensuring timely, accurate and well-controlled reconciliation of high-volume, complex cash flows, with a strong focus on automation and scalability.
  • Oversee month-end, half-year and year-end close activities relating to cash and customer payment balances, ensuring accurate balance sheet reporting and clear, well-evidenced positions for senior management and auditors.
  • Act as the key finance owner for cash-related systems and integrations, working closely with FinTech, Treasury and wider Finance teams to design, test and implement new or enhanced feeds, including ownership of user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Drive a strong financial control environment, designing and embedding preventative and detective controls, supporting internal and external audit requirements, and working with central controls teams to deliver sustainable, automated solutions.
  • Embed a culture of process excellence and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve reconciliation timeliness, enhance data quality and strengthen end-to-end visibility of cash flows.
  • Partner closely with stakeholders across Finance, Treasury, FinTech, Operations and Customer teams, providing subject-matter expertise on cash and payment flows and supporting business change initiatives.
  • Support the development and documentation of policies, procedures and process documentation, ensuring clarity, consistency and audit-defensibility across all cash accounting activities.
  • Act as backup approver in several Treasury areas related to bank portals and the Treasury Management System.
  • Champion ASOS values and ways of working, contributing positively to team culture and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

We believe being together in person helps us move faster, connect more deeply, and achieve more as a team. That’s why our approach to working together includes spending at least 3 days a week in the office. It’s a rhythm that speeds up decision-making, helps ASOSers learn from each other more quickly, and builds the kind of culture where people can grow, create, and succeed.

Qualifications

About You

  • Hands-on experience of cash accounting and bank reconciliations, ideally within a high-volume, complex environment such as e-commerce or retail.
  • Confident owning month-end close and balance sheet positions, producing clear, well-evidenced reconciliations and supporting internal and external audit requirements.
  • Experience working closely with systems and technology teams, including involvement in systems implementations or enhancements, and are comfortable owning or supporting user acceptance testing for cash-related feeds and integrations.
  • Can demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset, with a track record of simplifying processes, reducing manual effort, strengthening controls and improving data quality through automation where possible.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, change-driven environment, able to balance day-to-day delivery with longer-term improvements and transformation activity.
  • Experience leading, coaching or mentoring others, setting clear expectations, providing constructive feedback and building capability within a team environment.
  • Confident challenging existing processes, identifying root causes and proposing pragmatic, sustainable solutions.
  • Strong systems capability and data literacy, with the ability to understand complex data flows and use insight to drive better outcomes.
