Build resilient platforms. Enable innovation. Lead digital transformation.

As Platform Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the engineering and enablement of Anglian Water’s hybrid digital platforms, spanning cloud and on-premise infrastructure across both Information and Operational Technology.

You’ll be responsible for the design, build and continuous improvement of core platform services, including compute, storage, infrastructure automation and CI/CD pipelines. Your focus will be on creating platforms that are composable, resilient and scalable, enabling teams to deliver digital services quickly, securely and reliably.

Working closely with Infrastructure & Operations, Technology, Product, Cyber teams and delivery partners, you’ll embed modern infrastructure and platform engineering practices that enable speed, resilience and service-aware operations by design. This role is central to Anglian Water’s transition to modern cloud delivery and product-based operating models.

It’s a leadership role with real influence, offering the opportunity to shape platform strategy, modernise delivery practices and create the foundations that support critical services for customers, communities and the environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading the design, engineering and continual improvement of secure, scalable, and resilient hybrid cloud and on-premise platforms

  • Defining and implementing automation, infrastructure-as-code and container-based solutions to enable repeatable, rapid and compliant platform delivery

  • Translating business and product team requirements into platform solutions that accelerate delivery while reducing operational risk

  • Driving the adoption of self-service infrastructure, reusable components and platform guardrails to improve efficiency, security and operability

  • Ensuring platform services meet defined service levels, with strong performance, availability, security and observability

  • Leading, coaching and inspiring your team, fostering a culture of innovation, wellbeing, inclusion and high performance

  • Managing outsourced platform services and partner relationships to ensure consistent quality and alignment with strategic objectives

As a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to:

  • Full private healthcare with no excess

  • 26 days leave, rising with service + Bank Holidays, with the option to swap Christmas and Easter holidays for those celebrated by your religion

  • A flexible working culture

  • Competitive pension scheme – we double-match your contributions up to 6%

  • Life Assurance at eight times your salary

  • Personal Accident cover – up to 5x your salary

  • Bonus Scheme

What does it take to be a Platform Engineering Manager?

We’re looking for a hands-on technical leader who combines strong network engineering expertise with the ability to build trusted, collaborative relationships. You’ll be a clear communicator and problem-solver with a passion for continuous improvement, able to simplify complex systems through automation while leading teams with attention to detail and purpose.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in IT and OT platform engineering or infrastructure development

  • Skilled in Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, ARM, Bicep)

  • Experience with CI/CD tools and pipeline engineering

  • Good knowledge of containerisation and orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Experience working in Agile or product-based delivery teams

  • Familiarity with cloud-native and on-premises infrastructure patterns

  • Certifications in Cloud platforms (e.g. Azure)

  • Degree in a technology or computing discipline - desirable

Why Apply?

Apply to shape and lead the future of Anglian Water’s digital platforms, driving secure, scalable, and modern cloud and on-premise infrastructure.
