Job Description

We have a great new role for an Cloud Enterprise Architect to join our Technology Transformation team.

As Enterprise Architect – Cloud, you will define and evolve the enterprise architecture for Cloud and integration capabilities underpinning CTO systems.

Technology stack and focus are GCP (Google Cloud Platform) services with a serverless focus first, Kubernetes, Containerisation, Networking, IAM, API’s and Integration Patterns.

You will lead the definition of enterprise cloud and platform architecture, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, cost-optimised and cloud-agnostic, while enabling teams to deliver at pace through reusable cloud patterns, standards and guardrails.

The role balances long-term cloud strategy with hands-on technical leadership and strong delivery alignment.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Define enterprise cloud and platform architecture across Compute, networking, storage, identity and integration.
  • Establish reference architectures, standards and guardrails for hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Ensure alignment with security, privacy, resilience and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with Solution Architects, Tech Leads and platform engineering squads to ensure architectural intent is realised.
  • Guide architectural decisions across Kubernetes, container platforms, CI/CD, IaC and observability.
  • Promote DevSecOps, SRE and FinOps best practices across delivery teams.
  • Drive architectural approaches that reduce platform sprawl and operational complexity.
  • Identify consolidation and optimisation opportunities across cloud and on-prem estates.

Who we are

The UK’s fastest broadband network. The nation’s best-loved mobile brand. And, one of the UK's biggest companies too. We put our customers first, making life simpler, smoother, and more joyful. With big ambitions and a brilliant team, we’re building a more connected future for everyone.

We’re a flexible-first organisation, because we know people do their best work when they have choice and clarity. To support meaningful collaboration, we ask everyone to spend at least eight days each month connecting in person.

That doesn’t just mean time in the office, it could be team meetings, offsites, volunteering days, cross-functional projects, or away days - anywhere meaningful collaboration happens. What matters is making those moments purposeful, so when we come together, it really counts.

Accessible, inclusive and equitable for all

Virgin Media O2 is an equal opportunities employer and we're working hard to remove bias and barriers for our people and candidates. So, we build equity and inclusion into everything we do, from the policies we craft to the relationships we shape. We support and encourage you to be your authentic self throughout your application journey with us.

The must haves

  • Proven experience as an Enterprise Architect or Senior Platform/Cloud Architect.
  • Strong technical background in cloud and platform architectures (GCP, AWS, Azure or hybrid). Professional certifications would be a bonus,
  • Experience designing platforms on GCP, AWS or Azure, with a clear cloud-agnostic mindset
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes, container platforms, networking, IAM, APIs and integration patterns.
  • Experience defining cloud-agnostic architectures and avoiding vendor lock-in.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.

The other stuff we are looking for

  • Familiarity with GCP services such as BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Vertex AI, Cloud Run or Anthos.
  • Experience supporting data and AI platforms from a cloud and infrastructure perspective.
  • Experience in large-scale telecoms or regulated environments.

When you apply, you'll be asked about any adjustments you might need to support the recruitment process. Let us know, and we'll be sure to discuss it with you.

We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as possible. If you’re offered a job with us, it will be conditional, based on the passing of background checks.
