Salary - From £70,000 & benefits & annual bonus Work Level – 2 Location – Newcastle, Edinburgh or Glasgow, Permanent Office Attendance - Our roles are hybrid; however, you should be able to work from your nearest Tesco Insurance and Money Services’ Office 2 days per week. Occasional travel to other Tesco offices may also be required.Closing Date – 17th March 2026

Tesco Insurance is growing their Engineering team, and we’re looking for a Test Engineering Lead to lead the charge in testing our systems to assure quality on behalf of our customers and colleagues.
Leadership: As a Test Engineering Lead, you’ll help to lead the test engineering community across multiple cross-disciplined engineering feature teams across the enterprise, providing an opportunity to demonstrate and enhance your leadership skills
Influence on Direction: You’ll support the Quality Assurance Manager to set the testing direction and drive through improvements, features, and changes while delivering on committed product changes. This allows you to make a significant impact on the product and the team. Mentorship Opportunities: You’ll work closely with all engineers on your team, from seniors to juniors, mentoring and building their careers. This provides a chance to share your knowledge and help others grow.
Collaborative Environment: We encourage all engineers across the disciplines to share new ideas, challenge existing practices, and look for opportunities to improve their teams and the wider engineering community creating a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Subject Matter Expertise: You’ll act as one of the subject matter experts on testing with architecture, cloud, data and software. Allowing you to showcase and further develop your expertise. You’ll support the maintenance of standards and best practises within test ensuring these are all understood within your area.
Career Advancement: Working closely with Quality Assurance Manager on longer-term Test Engineering goals provides an excellent opportunity for career advancement.
What you’ll be doing • Supporting the rollout of the test strategy across Insurance and Money Services • Ensuring alignment of the IMS Enterprise Testing Strategy through large transformation changes as well as smaller BAU releases • Supporting setting the test engineering standards and controls across the testing community and ensuring that they are being followed on all releases • Driving the adoption of automation where possible to allow us to continue on our CI/CD journey • Producing quality metrics across Insurance and Money Services to support continuous improvement • Work with the Quality Assurance Manager to produce a roadmap for tooling and automation improvements and ongoing maintenance
What we’re looking for (essential) • Demonstrable experience of test leadership roles in medium to large enterprise organisations • Experience of QA and Test Practices and techniques, software and technologies • A long track record in test delivery, including both large scale programme releases and smaller change • Good knowledge and hands on experience of test tooling including functional and non-functional • Good knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery practices • Skilled staff management and leadership capability displaying excellent judgement and latitude in decision making • Experience of testing complex, enterprise-scale, multi-tier environments • Strong communication skills at all levels across the organisation We don’t expect you to tick every box, and if you feel you hit most of the brief, it’s worth exploring to further develop your career here with us.
