Role OVO-View

Team: Product & Tech - AER Pod (Attract, Engage, Retain) or BPC Pod (Bill, Pay, Collect)

Salary banding: £82,000 - £122,000

Contract type: Fixed Term Contract

Reporting to: Delivery and Growth Lead

Sponsorship: Unfortunately we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

This role in 3 words: Ownership, Impact and Connector

Top 3 qualities for this role: Proactivity, Organisation and Resilience

Where you’ll work:

Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person.

You’ll be assigned to the closest one of our three hub offices, Bristol, Glasgow, or London; unless your role requires field-based work. Each hub has accessible spaces to park your laptop, is designed to inspire people, help them connect and bring big ideas to life.

Everyone belongs at OVO:

At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity's biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That's why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.

Teamworking for the planet:

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen.

This role in a nutshell:

As a Staff Product Manager at OVO, you will be a central leader, steering the product vision, strategy and roadmap for a specific portfolio. Your role involves collaboration across teams and using data to prioritise efforts for the best strategic results. We need your blend of strategic insight, analytical depth and strong leadership to define product direction using data and OVO's business strategy. You'll play a crucial part in making data-informed product decisions that enhance portfolio performance and drive OVO's success.

We are currently hiring for 2 Staff Product Manager roles within our Product and Tech team - one role will sit within our AER Pod (Attract, Engage & Retain), and the other role will sit within our BPC Pod (Bill, Pay, Collect).

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Data-Informed Portfolio Strategy: Define and execute a comprehensive product strategy within the assigned portfolio, leveraging data insights and business strategy to drive optimal outcomes (commercial and customer).
  • Strategic Outcome Optimization: Utilize insights and analytics to drive decision-making, ensuring that product initiatives are consistently aligned with and optimized for strategic business outcomes.
  • Product Direction Leadership: Define and communicate clear product direction using data insights and business strategy, ensuring alignment across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Mentorship and Strategic Development: Mentor and support Product Managers on strategy, execution, and customer-centric thinking, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and strategic product development within the portfolio.
  • Shape and Deliver Portfolio Strategy: Define and drive a clear product strategy for your portfolio, ensuring it aligns with OVO's business goals and market insights.
  • Champion Data-Informed Decisions: Use data analytics to uncover insights, guide product development, and measure success against key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Lead Collaborative Product Development: Guide cross-functional teams (product, engineering, design, marketing, sales) to effectively deliver on the product vision and priorities.
  • Engage and Influence Stakeholders: Build strong relationships with senior leaders, presenting strategic recommendations and ensuring alignment on product direction and investment.
  • Contribute to OVO's Product Community: Actively participate in and enrich our Community of Practice by sharing knowledge, leading discussions, and helping to advance our collective product craft.

You’ll be a successful Staff Product Manager here at OVO if you have…

  • Proven experience as a Product Manager, with a knack for developing and actioning product strategy. This means you're comfortable shaping a clear vision for your product area and can translate that into actionable plans that deliver results, aligning with OVO's broader objectives.
  • A strong track record of using data to inform product decisions and achieve strategic goals. You consistently seek out and interpret data to understand user behaviour, identify opportunities, and make evidence-based choices that drive your product and OVO towards its key objectives.
  • The ability to effectively analyse data, research the market, and understand competitive landscapes. You can delve into market trends, customer needs, and what competitors are doing, using these insights to ensure your product is well-positioned and meets genuine user needs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, enabling you to work effectively with diverse teams. You can clearly articulate product plans, actively listen to different perspectives, and foster a positive team environment, working seamlessly with colleagues in engineering, design, marketing, and other areas.
  • A talent for strategic thinking combined with strong business understanding. You can see the bigger picture, connect product initiatives to OVO's commercial aims, and make smart decisions that balance user value with business viability.
  • Proficiency with Agile methodologies and experience using data analytics and visualisation tools. You are adept at working in agile environments, iterating on products, and comfortable using tools to extract meaningful insights from data and present them clearly.
  • A results-focused approach and experience in guiding or mentoring others in product management. You are driven to achieve positive outcomes and have a natural ability to share your knowledge, support colleagues, and contribute to the growth of others in the product team.
