Job Description

About Motorway

Motorway is the UK’s fastest-growing used car marketplace – our award winning, online-only platform connects private car sellers with over 7,500 verified dealers nationwide, who compete to offer the best price. Founded in 2017, our technology makes the process refreshingly easy, earning us an 'Excellent' Trustpilot rating with over 70,000 reviews. We're not just building a platform; we're changing how people sell cars.

Backed by leading investors like Index Ventures and ICONIQ Growth, and following a successful $190 million funding round, we're on a mission to transform the used car market.

About the role

Hey there! I’m Carl, Head of Commercial and Marketing Analytics here at Motorway. I am looking for an experienced, and passionate, data analyst to join my team and act as one of two key contacts for the marketing team for insights and testing.

As our new analyst, you will work closely with the marketing team to support them in understanding the performance of, and optimising, their campaigns through statistical testing, deep-dive insights, and some predictive modelling. You will also act as an SME on these areas for the marketing team, supporting them to refine test and insight ideas to ensure they get the answers they need to make decisions.

This is a unique opportunity to help guide and influence decisions made by the marketing team as they look to fulfil our mission of building the car market of tomorrow through data-driven decision making.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate, and build effective relationships, with marketing stakeholders that allow you to understand their needs and core objectives

  • Provide support on developing test hypotheses as well as designing, sizing, and producing statistical analysis of tests

  • Run deep-dive investigations into identified areas of interest and deliver the results in clear, well-structured, and easy-to-understand presentations that help stakeholders make decisions

  • Identify opportunities for the marketing team to optimise their campaigns based on insights from data analysis

  • Work closely with Google and Meta on systems that are at the cutting edge of marketing and advertising techniques

  • Where needed, work with our analytics engineers to ingest new data sources into our data stack to support analysis

  • Own established marketing reports that allow the marketing team to assess performance of campaigns

  • Keep up to date on testing and predictive modelling best practices

Requirements

  • 2-4 years’ experience working in an analytics/insights environment. Ideally with marketing teams though not essential

  • Degree in maths or science based subject though proven, on-the-job experience in the analytics space will also be considered

  • Good knowledge of statistical testing techniques and demonstrable, practical experience in setting up AB tests

  • Experience in influencing stakeholders through clear, easy-to-understand, and action orientated presentations

  • Established skills in identifying patterns/trends in data and articulating what these mean for a business through actionable insights

  • An eye for detail that produces in-depth analysis with an ability to go beyond the initial questions of stakeholders

  • Proficient in SQL and Python/R as well as experience of querying large data sets

  • Excellent communication skills: The ability to articulate stories from complex data/concepts both verbally, and in-writing, to stakeholders and colleagues at different levels of seniority

  • Stakeholder management experience and the ability to foster and maintain meaningful stakeholder relationship across the business

  • A self-starter mindset: Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work to tight deadlines and a pragmatic approach to problem solving

  • The motivation to make a big impact on our business and a passion for using data to effectively support business decision-making

  • Knowledge of Google BigQuery/DBT and Looker a plus, but not essential

Interview process

  • Hiring Manager Screen - 30 minutes

  • SQL Test - 30 minutes

  • Cross-Functional Interview - 45 minutes

  • Final Interview - 45 minutes

You can expect to hear back from us within a week of each interview stage. You'll have the opportunity to speak with a talent partner throughout the interview process should you have any questions or need any type of accommodations.
