Job Description

About the Role

As a Data Governance Specialist (Data Solutions), you’ll help shape how we protect, manage, and ethically use People data across the organisation. You’ll lead frameworks for data privacy, security, and ethics, ensuring our data is trusted, compliant, and responsibly used, including in emerging AI-enabled solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure compliance with global and local data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

  • Promote ethical and responsible use of People data, including guiding data ethics for AI‑powered tools.

  • Advise teams on best practices for data handling, storage, access, and sharing.

  • Assess and mitigate privacy, security, and data‑governance risks in partnership with cross‑functional teams.

  • Design and maintain access controls, retention policies, and classification standards.

  • Run regular audits to ensure policies and controls are followed.

  • Act as the go‑to expert on People data governance, privacy, and security.

  • Deliver training and awareness sessions across the People function.

  • Investigate and manage data incidents, ensuring swift resolution and accurate reporting.

  • Keep governance documentation and evidence up to date.

  • Support strategic planning and continuous improvement alongside the Head of People Data Solutions.

  • Represent the People function in enterprise data governance communities.

What You Bring

  • Clear and confident communication skills.

  • Strong organisation, prioritisation, and time‑management abilities.

  • Ability to translate between business needs and technical realities.

  • Comfort working both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑moving environment.

  • Analytical, curious, and detail‑oriented mindset, with a passion for solving root‑cause issues.

Technical Skills (Required)

  • Solid grounding in data governance and data management (stewardship, lineage, metadata, modelling, classification, KPI governance).

  • Strong understanding of data privacy, ethics, and regulatory compliance, including privacy‑by‑design and sensitive‑data handling.

  • Working knowledge of IAM concepts (RBAC, access reviews, audit logging).

  • SQL skills for validation, auditing, and analysis; familiarity with Power BI for governance insights.

  • Understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines (e.g., ADF, Databricks).

  • Ability to produce clear governance documentation, playbooks, RACIs, and audit materials.

  • Experience identifying and mitigating data‑related risks and supporting incident investigations.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to AI governance, responsible‑AI frameworks, and model‑risk or privacy assessments.

  • Familiarity with semantic models, reusable data products, and enterprise data architecture.
