About the role

Our Data and AI vision is to reinvent BT Group as the market leader in AI-powered connectivity, solutions and services, helping businesses, public sector communities and society improve the way they live and work. We’ll do this by building foundations to strengthen our core platform, while keeping ethics and responsible delivery at the core and, by harnessing data and AI to reinvent BT Group, solve business and customer problems and drive value through innovation. Underpinning the success of the strategy are our people, using our collective expertise in Data and AI to partner with the organization and drive a data-led culture.
Embedded within the Data Governance team, this role supports strategic data initiatives by defining and enforcing data quality standards, collaborating with business and technical stakeholders, and driving continuous improvement in data quality practices.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop and implement data quality frameworks aligned with governance policies and regulatory requirements (e.g. GDPR, AI Act).
  • Define and maintain data quality rules, metrics, and thresholds (e.g. accuracy, completeness, timeliness).
  • Collaborate with Data Owners and Stewards to enforce data governance standards and resolve quality issues.
  • Maintain control evidence and dashboards to support audit readiness and regulatory confidence.
  • Work closely with business units, IT, and platform teams to align data quality efforts with operational needs.
  • Provide training and guidance on data quality best practices and tools.
  • Act as a conduit between central governance and delivery units, ensuring consistent application of standards.

Essential Skills / Experience

Essential:

  • Significant experience in data quality, governance, or data management roles within large enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with data quality and governance tools (e.g. Informatica, Ataccama, Talend, Dataplex, Abinitio, Databricks) and dashboarding platforms (e.g. Power BI, Qlik).
  • Proven track record in implementing data quality frameworks, including profiling, cleansing, monitoring, and validation.

Desirable:

  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, ISO 27001, and internal governance standards.
  • Experience collaborating across business, IT, and compliance functions, including coaching data stewards and analysts.
  • Strategic capability to prioritise remediation efforts, influence governance forums, and embed quality into operational processes.
