APM Terminals

The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) drives terminal revenue growth, customer relationships, market positioning, and customer care in alignment with the Terminal Strategy Plan, APMT Strategy, and Commercial Vision. They oversee business development, product development, pricing, care and competitive positioning while fostering key partnerships. As a change agent, they embed global standards, leverage market insights and digital tools, and lead the local commercial and customer care teams to optimize performance, expand into adjacent services, and navigate challenges in a dynamic port environment.

The Chief Commercial Officer is responsible for driving the terminal’s commercial strategy, revenue growth, and customer engagement. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution across business development, customer care, product development, and stakeholder management, while building a high-performing commercial organization.

Key Responsibilities

Drive Commercial Strategy

• Develop and execute the terminal’s commercial plan in alignment with the Terminal Strategy Plan, APM Terminals Strategy, and Commercial Vision, covering both core operations and adjacent opportunity spaces.

Business Development

• Grow terminal revenue by generating demand, expanding market share, and developing new business opportunities.
• Strengthen local marketing and outreach to improve market positioning and attract new customers.

Regulatory, Government & Industry Stakeholder Engagement

• Represent the terminal in engagements with port authorities, government bodies, and industry associations to strengthen relationships, secure necessary approvals, and shape a favorable business environment.
• Position the terminal as a key contributor to the national and regional logistics ecosystem.

Customer Engagement & Care

• Build strong partnerships with key customers, including shipping lines, beneficial cargo owners (BCOs), and logistics providers.
• Lead and oversee contract negotiations, ensuring customer satisfaction, retention, and long-term loyalty.
• Lead customer care activities to enhance customer experience across all touchpoints.

Product Development, Value Proposition & Pricing

• Embed structured product development processes by deeply understanding customer needs, defining clear value propositions, and designing tailored service offerings.
• Implement value-based pricing strategies to maximize profitability and deliver differentiated customer value.

Market Intelligence & Competitive Positioning

• Analyze market trends, trade flows, and competitor activity to refine commercial strategy, adjust offerings, and strengthen competitive positioning.
• Develop and monitor performance against key performance indicators and quality metrics, including Net Promoter Score (NPS), to ensure outstanding customer experience, support, and loyalty.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with the Terminal Senior Leadership Team, operations, finance, and global teams to align commercial plans with operational capabilities and financial objectives.
• Ensure effective delivery of customer value through strong cross-functional alignment.

Build and Develop the Commercial Team

• Lead, coach, and develop the terminal’s commercial team, strengthening capabilities in sales, customer service, and marketing.
• Foster a high-performance, accountable, and customer-centric culture.

Commercial Change Agent

• Drive commercial transformation by embedding global standards, tools, and best practices at the terminal level.
• Ensure compliance with policies while contributing to increased commercial maturity and excellence.


What We’re Looking For

This role requires a senior commercial leader who combines strong technical solution-selling capabilities with deep marketing and business development expertise. You bring a strategic mindset, strong customer focus, and the ability to translate market insights into sustainable commercial growth.

You are comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders, leading transformation, and building teams that consistently deliver value to customers and the business.

Critical Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Business, or another relevant field of study required.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in commercial or business functions, including executive roles within recognized and innovative organizations in the maritime transportation or logistics industry.
• Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to develop long-term commercial strategies aligned with company objectives and market trends.
• Proven customer relationship management capability, with experience building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder partnerships.
• Advanced negotiation skills, including contracts, pricing, and strategic partnerships.
• Strong stakeholder management skills across internal and external audiences.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management experience, with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing commercial teams.
• Strong customer experience mindset, placing customer needs at the center of business decisions to enhance satisfaction and service quality.
• Excellent networking and relationship-building skills.
• Strong commercial acumen, with deep understanding of market dynamics, revenue generation, and business profitability.
