Junior Legal Counsel

THE GOAL

To support its growth, the company is looking for a full-time in-house lawyer who would ideally be based in London. The purpose of the role is to provide commercial and pragmatic legal advice for an international FMCG, and to help the business to achieve the company goals, among corporate projects.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Department: Legal Team

Reporting to: Senior Legal Counsel and co-deputy GC

Working with (external and internal relationships): Legal Team, UK and Germany team

CONTEXT

Level of autonomy

• Self-starter reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel and co-deputy GC

• Legal Team of 6 people working across 12 jurisdictions

WHAT YOU DO

• Acting as first point of contact for UK and Germany legal matters

• Draft and negotiate commercial contracts inc. retailer agreements, franchise agreements, service agreements, supply contracts and confidentiality agreements.

• Provide advice to commercial teams on contract interpretation (German and English)

• Support clients in negotiations with suppliers and internal stakeholders

• Draft legal letter including warning letters, termination letter and other suppliers/franchisees

• Responsible for legal and compliance matters in the UK and Germany

• General office administration duties including managing contract signings and filing on the drive as well as Corp. Gov related filings

• Research using research tools such as Practical Law and LexisNexis

• Update deadlines calendar and report monthly deadlines to legal team

• Conduct KD group insurance renewal info gathering for premium suggestions at group level

• Create and maintain relationships with external lawyers in the UK and Germany

• Support CSR department with the implementation and monitoring of compliance programmes

• Take minutes at holding board meetings

WHO YOU ARE

• You have at least 1-year PQE

• You are qualified as a solicitor with a minimum of 2 years of experience as an in-house lawyer (in a FMCG company would be a plus)

• You are fluent in English and in German

• You are a strong generalist lawyer with legal experience in line with the goals set above

• You have the ability and willingness to develop strong partnerships with multiple stakeholder; you also have strong communication skills

• You are a team player, willing to learn, business oriented, and able to marry legal requirements with strategic and commercial objectives.
