Communications plays a key role supporting our work using the law to protect people and the planet. We use a strategic approach to communications to influence decision-making and drive behaviour change.

Our Warsaw office is a vital part of our European operations. Leveraging Poland’s unique position as a large country in the EU and Central Europe and an economy undergoing a significant energy transition, our team in Warsaw delivers legal work that creates systemic change in Poland and well beyond its borders.

The Senior Communications Officer will play an essential role in co-creating that systemic change, working with legal and communications colleagues in Warsaw and across Europe.

As well as using communications to drive impact for our legal work, this role will help grow ClientEarth’s influence in Poland and beyond with decision-makers in politics, policy and industry. They will also contribute to the Core team’s mission to constantly improve how we communicate, thinking creatively and using the full suite of communications tools to change behaviour and influence decision-makers.

Meet your Manager

In this role you will be managed by Joanna Iszkowska. Joanna is Communications Lead in Poland at ClientEarth. Prior to joining ClientEarth, Joanna worked as Head of Communications in Central Europe at McKinsey & Company. Before that she was a journalist for 14 years. She worked for Gazeta Wyborcza, biggest Polish quality daily and then for Newsweek Poland as a reporter, correspondent in Brussels, and managing editor. Joanna co-authored “Chinese Roulette. The Olympics and What’s Next” – a book illustrating the impact of 2008 Olympic Games on China. She graduated from the Warsaw University (Faculty of Journalism and Political Science). She also studied communications at Rutgers University in the US.

Main Duties

  • With support from the Communications Lead, develop, implement and measure innovative communications to support the strategic objectives of our work in Poland.
  • Deliver media relations for ClientEarth in Poland.
  • Support legal colleagues, including Preseident of Board, ensuring that they make the most of communications opportunities to enhance the impact of their work by preparing them for media and other public appearances.
  • Develop relationships to match the strategic needs of relevant stakeholders, including with journalists, partner organisations and others who can help us deliver our messages.

Role requirements

  • Fluent (CEFR level C2) in English
  • Fluent (CEFR level C2) in Polish
  • Experience of producing engaging press releases and other communications products to gain impactful media coverage that enhances the impact of an organisation’s work
  • Experience of advising colleagues on media and other communications opportunities (essential).
  • Experience of devising and delivering multi-channel communications
  • Knowledge of the political landscape in Poland and how that would affect ClientEarth’s work
