Employee reviews

ClientEarth's employees have anonymously had their say in what they think of the company

It's really inspiring to work amongst people who are so passionate and driven about the cause. There are many channels for staff to voice their views and the leadership is genuinely committed to act on the feedback - I can see changes happening as a result. ClientEarth is also putting on a lot of effort to improve its DEI, and whilst there's still some way to go, I am sure the work will pay off over time.

The most flexible and value driven organisation I ever worked for

Throughout my short career here thus far, and even during the recruitment process, it was explained to me how flexible the working was and how staff can alter the hours and days worked, based on a contractual number of hours. It is generally up to me how and when I work these hours within a core window and I am given the autonomy to manage this.

It's a positive working environment where wellbeing is important to the management team.

CE offers flexible, supportive and inclusive work environment. It is a place where you can grow, choose directions for your own development and balance your personal life with work. It is an always growing and changing organization, so you will most likely not get bored of your work. At the same time, while it is a highly professional and efficient organization, it has an ngo-style work culture with a friendly atmosphere.

I like that management (including senior management) is very approachable. There a lots of possibilites to get in touch with them and they listen as well.

I think ClientEarth has been able to hit the 'sweet spot' for hybrid working with the 80/20 approach (up to 80% working from home in a month). This and working around the 10-4 core hours works well for me, especially with childcare commitments. I do like coming to the office for those 20% of the time as it feels good to connect with colleagues in-person. My manager is also very supportive of any additional ad-hoc requests, so I am very happy overall.

Great company to work from, the hybrid model we have here 80% home 20% office is great. The 20% isn't forced upon us either.

This is by far the best company i have worked for generous annual leave, closed between Christmas and New Year without a deduction on your annual leave allowance. Flexible working across the board and working from abroad policy

ClientEarth has excellent work culture and allows work from abroad which is a boon for employees who move countries to different offices to work.

I love the fact that we have loads of flexibility with when we do our work.

ClientEarth has a progressive approach to flexible working, with up to 80% of our time expected to be in the office connecting with our teams and other colleagues, which can be one day a week or one week a month. This flexibility helps me plan the best place to work, for the type of work I am doing in any one day. This is supported by our IT strategy to introduce more collaboration platforms that help globally dispersed teams work together, and our offices which support hot-desking, a central kitchen area where I can talk to colleagues outside my team over lunch, and we have a lot of small meeting rooms for catch ups when in the office. The senior team model this - they are present and accessible in the office - and support individuals who request flexibility around caring responsibilities or other personal circumstances.

The 80% flexible 20% office approach has been life changing for me. I could not imagine going back to working full time in an office!

About us

A world in which people and planet thrive together isn't just possible; it's essential.

We are the world’s most ambitious environmental organisation. We started with one lawyer and his laptop in 2007. Now we are over 300 people, with eight offices around the world, creating powerful change for life on Earth. Read more about our history here.

We have blocked Europe’s largest planned coal plant. We've forced governments across Europe to clean up air pollution. We pressured the world’s largest multilateral lender to withdraw funding for fossil fuels. We’ve forced big polluters to come clean about their climate impacts – and to clean up their acts. We protect essential ecosystems on which everyone depends. We prevented the destruction of Europe’s oldest forest and protected vulnerable wildlife.

We work tirelessly to ensure people can seek and access the protection they’re entitled to by law. We also support environmental legal professionals and organisations to work effectively to protect the planet. Read more about our mission and acheivements here.

Flexible working at ClientEarth

We offer a flexi-time policy that allows for earlier/later start and finish times on a regular and ad-hoc basis.

We give our people the choice to decide to work from home in the country where their contract of employment is issued for 80% of their month, with the other 20% of their month being office-based.

We provide a laptop to enable home working and reimbursement of up to £300 (or local equivalent) to cover additional equipment needed to ensure that you have an ergonomically sound work space.

Staff can work from another country (for non-work reasons) for up to 30 working days per calendar year. To take advantage of this scheme staff must complete a number of declarations and be able to stay and work in the relevant country without breaching immigration rules or incurring tax or social security liability.

Some of our other benefits vary by location, so do see our career site for specifics.

Approach to diversity & inclusion

ClientEarth values equity, diversity, and inclusion and the benefits they bring. We aim to appoint the most suitable candidate at all times and strongly welcome applications from people from all different backgrounds.

Prizing diversity is one of our core values. Our global staff Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) committee plays a key role in the organisation, alongside our Board EDI sub-committee. We are deeply aware that historically disadvantaged groups are at the sharp end of environmental degradation, that people with intersecting identities experience the harms of environmental degradation in complex ways, and that our mission is best served by a diverse staff.

Recently we have carried out a detailed EDI audit, working with external auditors to explore opportunities where we could do better. The audit has produced a number of recommendations that led to the creation of our first EDI Strategy, which we are currently rolling out.

What do we think of ClientEarth?

ClientEarth's commitment to offering flexibility in a space that isn't typically flexible is super impressive. I love their mission and drive! Having spoken with Peter on numerous occasions, it sounds a really exciting time to join Client Earth - plus, their FlexScore speaks for itself!

Meet who might be hiring you

I'm really happy to be partnering with Flexa to showcase our flexible working provisions here at ClientEarth. I joined ClientEarth in 2020, three weeks before the pandemic struck. Our journey from a traditional office-based employer to one offering much more flexibility has been impressively rapid. Personally, I would never go back to working 5 days a week in an office, and I'm sure many of you couldn't either!

Our 80% flexible / 20% office working pattern has been a game changer for many of my colleagues, and our Work From Abroad pilot scheme has given those with family in other countries more precious time to spend with them. When we do spend time in our offices, they are pretty nice places to be, with the best tech and meeting rooms I've experienced in my public sector & charity-based career.

If, like me, you are concerned about the environment and climate change and want to do something about it, while working in a way that works for you, now is the time to join us.
