Join Hive’s IoT Team, the driving force behind our Net Zero initiative, supporting over 2 million customers in their transition to sustainable living. As a Software Test Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing automated testing solutions for Hive’s IoT Platform, Hub, and Mobile applications, contributing to our innovative energy solutions like EV charging, solar energy, batteries, air source heat pumps, home heating, and lighting systems.

The Role:

• Evaluate and Test: assess Net Zero focused smart home devices and cross-platform mobile apps within an industry-leading ecosystem.
• Quality Assurance: contribute to delivering a superior user experience by collaborating with team members and adhering to QA standards.
• Continuous Improvement: seek to enhance the overall quality and usability of Hive’s products by finding optimal solutions to challenging problems.
• Agile Collaboration: work within a growing agile QA team, understanding the system deeply, and supporting the Net Zero goals.
• Product Quality: act as a gatekeeper for product quality, identifying gaps, developing, and automating testing and documentation.
• Close Collaboration: work closely with developers, product teams, and domain experts to solve problems and execute automated and manual tests, summarising results clearly.
• Test Systems Management: oversee multiple test systems in AWS, written in both Python and Java.
• Issue Reporting: report issues clearly and concisely, working closely with developers and product teams to ensure agile delivery of new features.

The Person Requirements:

• Software Testing Experience: testing physical hardware alongside web and mobile applications across multiple platforms.
• Methodologies: good understanding of TDD, BDD, Continuous Deployment, and Continuous Integration.
• Remote Data: experience working with remote data via REST and JSON.
• Agile Scrum: sufficient experience with Agile Scrum behaviours.
• Coding Skills: either Java or Python skills, both is a bonus.
• Linux Proficiency: Linux and headless OS management, with scripting, and automation skills.
• Bug Tracking: understanding and experience working with Jira or similar bug tracking tools.
• Low Carbon Tech: knowledge of solar, battery, and air source heat pump technologies.
• Protocols: familiarity with Zigbee, Modbus, WebSocket, MQTT, Protobuf, or other home automation protocols.
• Analytics Tools: familiarity with tracking app metrics and using third-party analytics tools.
• Tech Knowledge: knowledge of the general mobile and web landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies.
• Functional Testing: experience with functional testing and code quality improvement.
