🚀 Senior HSE Manager
📍 Location: Dublin or Cork Office | Hybrid working - 2 days per week in office
🕒 Full-Time – Permanent

This role will require limited travel within Ireland and the UK.

🔍 The Job
The Senior HSE Manager leads the Health, Safety and Environment function across Bord Gais and Centrica Retail operations in Ireland, providing strategic leadership, governance and assurance to ensure the effective management of operational risk, regulatory compliance and continual improvement. The role is accountable for driving a high-performance safety culture, influencing senior leaders, and ensuring that HSE considerations support safe growth, operational excellence and customer outcomes.

💼What you’ll be doing:

  • Act as the strategic HSE leader for Bord Gais, partnering with the Executive Leadership Team to embed health, safety and environmental excellence across all operations.
  • Provide independent assurance to the Bord Gais Executive Team for Retail operations and relevant governance forums that operational risks are being effectively identified, managed and controlled.
  • Develop and deliver the Bord Gais HSE Strategy, ensuring alignment with Centrica Retail and Group objectives, regulatory requirements and business priorities.
  • Lead the Retail HSE function for Ireland, creating a high-performing team that delivers expert support, challenge, assurance and continuous improvement across all business activities.
  • Drive a risk-based approach to decision making, ensuring critical safety risks are understood, prioritised and effectively managed throughout the business.
  • Provide oversight of significant operational risk areas including engineering operations, field activities, contractor management, technical standards, asset safety, customer safety and environmental compliance.
  • Lead the development and continual improvement of HSE governance arrangements, management systems, standards and assurance frameworks.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to Directors and senior operational leaders on emerging risks, regulatory developments and business-critical HSE matters.
  • Sponsor serious incident investigations and organisational learning activities, ensuring lessons are identified, embedded and translated into measurable risk reduction.
  • Lead engagement with regulators, enforcement authorities, industry bodies and external stakeholders, representing Centrica Retail on HSE matters.
  • Drive HSE performance through the establishment of meaningful KPIs, leading indicators, assurance activities and executive reporting.
  • Ensure effective management of contractor and supply chain HSE performance, providing robust oversight of high-risk activities delivered on behalf of Centrica.
  • Lead and influence cultural improvement programmes that strengthen ownership, accountability and visible safety leadership across the organisation.

Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive experience in managing EHS at a senior level with direct reports
  • Experience of working in a similar field
  • An understanding of the regulatory sector and the management of risk
  • Experience in managing performance of 3rd party contractors
  • Strong self-drive and resilience to overcome challenges and deliver results
  • Relevant experience of building a strong and consistent culture of safety throughout an organisation.
  • Education and Certifications
  • BSc (Hons) Occ H&S / NEBOSH Diploma / NVQ Level 5/6 or equivalent
  • Barrier-based root cause analysis training (Sologic or equivalent)
  • Incident investigation experience in a recognised method i.e. Topset
  • HSE Auditor qualification preferred (ISO 45001 and/or 14001)
  • Chartered member of IOSH (or actively working towards)
  • Evidence of current CPD
