Job Description

Job Description:

What You’ll Do

As the Health, Safety & Environment Manager, you will serve as a critical member of the Plant Senior Management Staff, setting the overall HSE vision for our Yorkville and Northwestern Flavors facilities. In this role, you will champion the vital relationship between safety, productivity, Associate engagement, and business profitability. Your goal is to translate Global HSE strategy into site execution, partnering with Operations and Engineering to drive one aligned factory agenda. Beyond maintaining a continuous “audit-ready” state of compliance, you will drive the overall Mars HSE culture, improve site policies, and lead external efforts to ensure safety and environmental stewardship in the communities where we operate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the site's "Safety Pillar" leader to support the Mars Supply Excellence strategy. You will manage the overall site HSE budget, participate in capital project reviews, and manage risk activities associated with asset conservation and property loss control.

  • Champion our Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) effort to win hearts and minds. You will direct, coach, and develop a highly tenured team of safety, environmental, and security professionals to properly support the site.

  • Ensure 100% compliance with federal, state, and local environmental permits (Air, Stormwater, Water, Hazardous Waste) and DOT regulations. Develop and deliver risk reduction reviews of process hazards, combustible dusts, and high-fire risk operations.

  • Lead root-cause investigations utilizing specific tools to prevent recurrence. Partner with Occupational Health to ensure effective injury case management and measure/improve Industrial Hygiene risks (ergonomics, respirable dust, noise, chemical exposure).

  • Lead the Site Emergency Organization to effectively respond to HSE and hazardous material emergencies. Oversee site security requirements, access rights, and the overall Contractor Safety program.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Safety Management, Industrial Safety, Sciences, Engineering, or Industrial Hygiene.

  • 5+ years of progressive experience implementing and managing HSE and/or industrial hygiene programs within a manufacturing arena. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate career stability and the ability to stay and deliver long-term value.

  • Strong regulatory knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and DOT standards. Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety (BBS), job hazard analysis, and Process Hazards Analysis.

  • Strong collaborative leadership skills with the ability to manage by influence across the site.

  • Must have the tact to positively influence safe behaviors and present technical material effectively to large groups, site management, elected officials, and regulatory agencies.

What You Can Expect from Mars

  • Work with diverse and talented Associates, all guided by the Five Principles.

  • Join a purpose driven company, where we’re striving to build the world we want tomorrow, today.

  • A strong focus on learning and development support from day one, including access to our in-house Mars University.
