Director, Business Development

Reporting to the Net Zero New Business Director, the Director, Business Development is a critical part of the Net Zero team, responsible for building relationships and driving sales via our B2B channels.

You will take accountability for driving our Net Zero solutions within the UK, building key relationships at a senior stakeholder level and facilitating business development in social housing, new build, and local / combined authorities. Ultimately you will be responsible for growing our market share, creating lasting partnerships and relationships, and building trust in our brand.

With regional and product-specific teams reporting into you, your goal will be to co-develop and deliver the B2B business plan across the UK.

Key accountabilities

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of Policy, legislation, local nuances and historic activity in our markets

  • Co-lead the development of the growth strategy with awareness of the overall commercial strategy of Net Zero

  • Provide energy, leadership and motivation to the wider Net Zero team

  • Work closely with Marketing on the Community activation strategy

  • Remove barriers and create the path to enable the delivery of the numbers outlined in the business plan

  • Participation in market shaping activity - maintain competitive and market intelligence (inclusive of consumer trends, government policy and regulation, technology, market segments)

  • Identify key issues facing the business working with the rest of the Net Zero team to capitalise on those opportunities and/or mitigate those risks

  • Develop an in depth understanding of the wider business model, including products & propositions, business development, pricing and marketing

What we'd like you to bring

  • The ability to develop a rapid understanding of our business, customers, competitors, market opportunities and challenges

  • Demonstrable experience of applying a growth mindset to deliver significant and sustainable improvements in business performance

  • Knowledge of Net Zero products & services

  • Experience of building, inspiring and motivating teams

  • Proven experience in business development

  • Strong understanding of overall business strategy and vision, with demonstrable awareness of the impact of the wider landscape and impact of this on Net Zero

  • Able to confidently influence strategic decisions at board level which have business-wide implications

  • Strong commercial acumen & effective decision making that will deliver business goals

  • Proven capability in leading & supporting virtual, diverse teams being able to influence at pace and remotely

  • Highly effective communicator, excellent at building internal and external relationships and managing relationships to optimise value

  • Corporate Finance experience a benefit (but not a must-have!)
