Why this job matters

BT Group has the 2nd largest fleet of vehicles in the UK at c.36,000. Our fleet of vehicles are critical to our operation - whether it is an Openreach customer service installing broadband in a customer’s home, or a BT Technology engineer repairing the network infrastructure, we couldn’t deliver our purpose without our vehicles.

The Transport Manager role holds responsibility for ensuring the fleet of vehicles within a designated region are fully compliant.

What you’ll be doing

  • You will have responsibility for a fleet of vehicles within a designated geographic region ensuring that these vehicles are fully compliant through a combination of field and office-based activities.
  • Support the Head of Compliance by driving day to day compliance under the Group’s “operator licence” within your region.
  • Build working relationships with drivers and operational managers to ensure best practice and legal compliance.
  • Work closely with the retained fleet organisation to ensure our fleet maintenance supplier deliver on their contractual compliance commitments.
  • Communicate with drivers and senior leaders across fleet and be part of a bigger team of transport managers, effectively collaborating to ensure compliance.

The skills you'll need

  • CPC Qualification preferred
  • Experience in the transport industry or transferrable skills within compliance
  • Experience of fleet management across a varied fleet including heavy goods, light vehicles and plant.
  • Able to work collaboratively, building trust, delegating, and negotiating with stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Comfortable implementing the right course of action to ensure compliance and safety across the fleet.
