Software Engineering Specialist

At BT, we're responsible for delivering and operating high-profile digital platforms that support thousands of business customers across the UK.

We're looking for a Senior AWS DevOps Engineer to help ensure these platforms remain secure, reliable and available for our customers.

This is a hands-on role focused on AWS infrastructure, release management, automation and operational support. You'll help manage cloud services, support website releases, maintain CI/CD pipelines and investigate technical issues across live production environments.

Working closely with DevOps engineers, testers, developers and colleagues across the UK and India, you'll help ensure our platforms remain secure, reliable and available for customers.

What you’ll be doing

• Support the ongoing operation of business.bt.com and business.ee.co.uk.
• Manage AWS infrastructure and cloud services including Lambda, API Gateway and associated platform components.
• Build, maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and GitHub.
• Support website releases and deployment activities across production environments.
• Manage SSL certificates and deployment automation processes.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues by analysing logs and identifying root causes.
• Work closely with development, testing and operations teams to support successful releases.
• Contribute to platform reliability, performance and operational improvements.
• Participate in planned release activities and operational support requirements.
• Support automation initiatives and continuous improvement across the DevOps function.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Strong experience working in a DevOps, Cloud Engineering or Platform Engineering environment.
• Hands-on AWS experience, including services such as Lambda and API Gateway.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong experience with Jenkins and Git-based source control platforms.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues and analysing logs to identify root causes.
• Knowledge of deployment automation and release management practices.
• Strong problem-solving and technical investigation skills.
• Experience supporting customer-facing digital platforms or websites.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Important Information

• Open to BT hub locations across the UK.
• Hybrid working model.
• This role supports live customer-facing platforms and includes participation in planned out-of-hours releases and deployment activities.
• Candidates should be comfortable supporting occasional out-of-hours change windows as part of operational support and release management responsibilities.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
• Understanding of cloud security best practices.
• Experience with serverless technologies and modern cloud architectures.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise websites.
• Experience working within distributed or global teams.
