Job Description

About the role

We're looking for Cloud Engineers to join a fast-paced, constantly evolving engineering team delivering world-class secure cloud solutions that make a genuine difference to our customers.

Whether you are developing your cloud engineering career or already operating at a more experienced specialist level, you'll help build, automate and support secure cloud environments that are designed for resilience, scalability and security from day one.

Working as part of multidisciplinary delivery teams, you will contribute to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of secure cloud platforms, automation frameworks and operational tooling. You'll collaborate closely with customers, engineers, security specialists and architects to deliver solutions that enable critical missions and support important national services.

This role offers opportunities to work across the full lifecycle of cloud delivery whilst developing expertise in cloud-native technologies, platform engineering, infrastructure-as-code, DevSecOps and secure cloud operations.

Note: This role requires eligibility for UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. As a result, applicants must typically be sole British citizens and have lived in the UK continuously for the previous 10 years, subject to UK Government vetting requirements.

What you’ll be doing

Depending on your skills, interests and experience, you may:
• Design, build and support secure cloud platforms and services using modern engineering and automation practices.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code, configuration management and deployment automation to improve consistency, scalability and delivery speed.
• Collaborate with customers, architects, security specialists and engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver secure cloud solutions.
• Support the operation, monitoring and continual improvement of cloud platforms, ensuring high levels of availability, resilience and performance.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment and operational issues, helping to identify and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Contribute to cloud security, risk management and compliance activities, ensuring solutions are secure by design.
• Share knowledge, support peer reviews and contribute to engineering standards, best practice and technical communities.
• Mentor and support less experienced engineers whilst contributing to the development of team capability.
• Evaluate emerging tools, technologies and engineering approaches that improve platform capabilities and customer outcomes.

Essential Skills / Experience

We recognise that great candidates won't necessarily meet every requirement listed below. If you're excited by the opportunity and have relevant experience in secure cloud engineering, we'd encourage you to apply.

• Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Experience designing, deploying, supporting or improving cloud-based infrastructure and services.
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code approaches and automation tooling.
• Understanding of cloud networking, security and operational best practices.
• Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues within modern infrastructure environments.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of audiences.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Experience with container technologies and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps or DevSecOps delivery practices.
• Knowledge of cloud security controls, compliance frameworks and secure-by-design principles.
• Experience supporting highly available or mission-critical services.
• Experience developing automation solutions using scripting or software development languages.
• AWS certifications or equivalent cloud qualifications.
• Experience mentoring colleagues or providing technical leadership within engineering teams.
• Experience working within secure, regulated or government environments.
