Job Description

About the role

The Software Engineering Specialist executes software engineering activities across the full application lifecycle, designing, developing, testing and delivering scalable digital solutions. Through hands-on development expertise and technical ownership, the role drives engineering excellence, quality assurance, release readiness and continuous improvement, ensuring secure, reliable and scalable applications that deliver customer and business value.

What you’ll be doing

  • Apply technical expertise across the software development lifecycle, contributing to the design, development, testing and production of complex digital applications.
  • Ensure software is robust, scalable, secure, testable and production-ready, applying strong engineering and quality practices throughout the lifecycle.
  • Contribute to technical solution design, understanding application architecture, integrations, dependencies and customer journeys.
  • Drive improvements in automated testing, engineering quality and development practices, helping reduce defects and increase delivery confidence.
  • Take technical ownership of the application release lifecycle, coordinating release readiness, dependencies, approvals, validation and production deployment to ensure changes are delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Work on complex production technical changes, assessing risk, prioritising actions and driving issues through to resolution while minimising customer impact.
  • Take technical ownership of application capabilities, understanding business and customer needs and translating them into clear technical priorities, requirements and engineering outcomes.
  • Contribute to prioritisation and roadmap planning, assessing the value, impact, dependencies and technical complexity of proposed changes.
  • Assess changes and identify application, integration, security and operational risks before they reach production.
  • Resolve complex technical issues, dependencies and delivery blockers across multiple engineering teams and technology areas.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering, release and automation practices to improve software quality, release efficiency and application stability.
