Job Description

About the role

The Senior Digital Strategist is a pivotal forward-looking role within the Group Strategy & Change organisation. Reporting to the Director of Group Strategic Partnerships & Digital Strategy, this role sits adjacent to BT’s most critical Big Tech partners, to stay close to the latest developments. You bring experience and expertise, keeping pulse on the latest technological developments, with a focus on the future of technology and its impact on BT, providing thought leadership and actionable insight on emerging trends, digital ecosystems, and the evolving competitive and technological landscape. This is a strategy role that requires a blend of strategic thinking, technical fluency, and providing actionable insights. This not a delivery or programme management role.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the identification and analysis of disruptive technology trends (AI, cloud, edge, IoT, etc.) and explain their implications for BT’s business models, products, services, and ways of working.
  • Understand BT’s digital and corporate strategy by working closely with the Chief Digital Officer and Chief Strategy & Change Officer, ensuring all recommendations are sound within the broader strategic context.
  • Advise senior executives on strategic opportunities and risks arising from new technologies, digital platforms, and shifts in the global tech landscape.
  • Build robust, data-driven business cases and strategic recommendations for BT’s long-term growth and digital transformation.
  • Engage cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure alignment and buy-in for strategic initiatives. Work closely with the Group Strategy team to ensure that BT’s digital strategy is coherent with broader strategic objectives and deliverables.
  • Draw on a wide network of experts in enterprises, start-ups, academia etc., to develop informed opinions and insights.
  • Where relevant, represent BT’s perspective on technology strategy in industry forums, with partners, and internally at the highest levels.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Demonstrated capabilities as a futurist & thought leader with the ability to inform, inspire, and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience in the tech & strategy sectors, with technical acumen and the ability to translate complex technology trends into actionable business strategies.
  • In-depth understanding of hyperscalers (Amazon, Google, Microsoft etc.), neo cloud providers, major ISVs, chip makers, and the evolving digital ecosystem and its resultant implications for BT.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay ahead of technology trends and anticipate their impact on business models and value chains.
  • Extensive understanding of the strategy consulting approach, including hypothesis testing, building frameworks and taking a structured approach to complex topics.
  • Highly analytical, with a proven ability to synthesize complex technical topics to deliver clear, compelling recommendations.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the gravitas to engage senior executives and external partners.
  • This is an individual contributor role. You must be a strong team player, able to lead & influence cross-functional stakeholders, and contribute to a high-performance, collaborative culture.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience in telecoms, infrastructure, networked industries, or regulated markets.
  • Experience publishing insights, speaking at industry forums, or engaging with academia/start-ups.
  • Credibility in translating external innovation & trends to enterprise reality.
  • Prior work alongside or within technology partners, alliances, or ecosystems.
  • Understanding of capital intensity, long investment cycles, and platform economics.
