Why this job matters

As a Senior Manager, Business development, you will lead and shape BT’s new business growth within the private sector, driving the acquisition of large and complex corporate customers across the retail, charity and business services verticals. You will develop and lead a high-performing team focused on winning strategic new business opportunities in a defined set of acquisition target accounts, strengthening BT’s market presence, and establishing deep stakeholder networks. You will define the strategy, structure, and operating rhythm for the team, working closely with sales leadership and cross functional teams to enhance how BT engages the market. Operating as part of a wider sales leadership community, you will contribute to improving BT’s overall acquisition capability, foster collaborating, elevate performance and help create a world class sales organisation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead a team of Business Development Managers to drive growth across enterprise accounts, fostering a collaborative, customer-focused culture that supports high performance and resilience.
  • Define and refine acquisition strategy, including account targeting, market opportunity identification, and go-to-market approach based on market trends and whitespace analysis.
  • Align team structure, territories, and customer allocation to match opportunity size, skill set, and market coverage priorities.
  • Manage sales performance through clear KPIs, account planning, opportunity qualification, and performance metrics focused on conversion rates, opportunity quality, and profitability.
  • Build and maintain wide stakeholder networks across the organization and customer base, partnering with cross-functional teams including marketing, account management, and sales operations to strengthen market engagement and drive results.

What we would like to see on your CV

  • Proven experience leading high-performing business development or new business sales teams in the enterprise private sector, with strong capability in strategic planning and performance management.
  • Experience building sales structure, process discipline, and operational rigor within evolving or growth-focused sales functions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in customer relationship management, consultative selling, and value-based approaches for large and complex acquisition opportunities.
  • Telco or Technology sector experience with strong vertical industry expertise and understanding of economic and industry drivers relevant to your target markets.
  • Ability to lead inclusively, create team energy, and communicate effectively to articulate how to run a highly effective, growth-focused team.
