Why this job matters

Responsible for driving and overseeing the procurement strategy, processes and activities for BT’s Engineering Field Services category, leading the category and its team through strategic sourcing and stakeholder management activities.


The role represents the category within wider Networks and BT strategies, ensuring delivery of annual objectives aligned to BT business units and BT Sourced.


It involves building and maintaining senior level relationships with key suppliers to position BT as a customer of choice, maximise supplier performance, and support BT’s long term strategic goals. The role also provides procurement insight to support the development and implementation of procurement frameworks, policies and procedures, while fostering a strong culture and high levels of engagement across BT Sourced.

What you’ll be doing

  • Drive category spend and performance, develop and deliver category strategy, in collaboration with stakeholder community and suppliers, leveraging best practice procurement approaches and tactics
  • Devise negotiation strategies to achieve optimal outcomes (total cost of ownership)
  • Manage senior relationships with key suppliers, negotiate commercial and contractual arrangements, ensure required performance and contractual obligations are met, while incorporating new and innovative improvement initiatives
  • Deliver business partnering services to key CFUs / CUs
  • Lead, develop and coach a team of procurement professionals to deliver brilliant outcomes for BT. Lead category team members, setting objectives and ensuring strategy implementation at sub-category level
  • Provide guidance and input to develop and implement policies and frameworks to underpin products and service delivery
  • Maintain and develop internal and external networks, to ensure buy in and improvements of business value and Total Cost of Ownership

Essential skills/experience;

  • Experience as a leader within the Procurement function, with strong leadership skills and the ability to lead, and deliver through high performance and multicultural teams
  • Strong business expertise in relevant category, particularly around supplier capabilities, commercial models, product lifecycles and partner programmes
  • Ability to manage complex, strategic and commercial requirements between BT and Suppliers, and to translate in sourcing strategy & plan that address the needs and mitigate the risks
  • Demonstrates a track record of decision making capability and deliver against key metrics
  • Strong relationship management skills & ability to influence decision making with senior stakeholders
  • Experience in business partnering and supplier relationship management
  • Experience in managing complex labour supply chains tenders and contracting
  • Develop the skills and the career path of the team members
