Job Description

Location: London, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester

Flexible working: BT have moved to a hybrid working model - you can work from home 2 days per week. This means you’ll be at your contractual location 3 days a week.

About the role

In Sales and Commercial, we’re building one of the biggest and best sales teams in the country. We’ve got big ambitions to develop a team that has the right ability and will to win. Central to our ambitions are;

  • Using our unparalleled expertise to bring first class solutions to market and offer a compelling value proposition to our customers that’s unmatched by our competitors
  • Developing a highly skilled, highly efficient sales powerhouse through competitive pricing, an optimised channel model and best in class tools
  • Relentless pursuit of a high-performance culture founded on clear career progression and the drive and determination to become the UK’s best sales force

We’re looking for a Senior Business Development manager focused on Managed Services to help grow BT’s market share and Managed Services portfolio by acquiring large, complex and strategic opportunities with corporate customers across the private sector. You’ll identify, qualify and shape opportunities across our target account base, including whitespace opportunities.

You’ll combine customer insight, market intelligence, commercial understanding and compelling storytelling to take executive stakeholders from their current position to a clear vision for managed services. You’ll align BT’s capabilities with customers’ business priorities, operational goals and long-term technology roadmaps, articulating benefits such as improved visibility, service assurance and operational efficiency, and developing credible business cases grounded in total cost of ownership and return on investment.

This is a high-impact business-to-business sales role for someone who understands the commercial and market context of managed services, can lead complex pursuits and operates confidently as a trusted advisor to senior customer and internal stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing

  • Proactively identify and qualify managed services opportunities across the target account base, using structured frameworks, market intelligence, and competitive insight to focus on winnable business.
  • Lead discovery conversations to understand customers’ business objectives, operational challenges, service management requirements and external drivers, translating these insights into long-term account growth and executive engagement strategies.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships at executive level, influencing customers before formal RFP processes and helping them define solution requirements.
  • Develop and execute winning pursuit strategies for complex managed services opportunities, aligning BT’s capabilities with customer priorities, operational goals and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Lead conversations around service outcomes and build compelling proposals and business cases that demonstrate service assurance, operational efficiency, total cost of ownership, return on investment and long-term value.
  • Orchestrate virtual teams across solution design, service management, delivery, operations, legal, commercial and bid functions, identifying procurement routes and timelines and travelling to meet customers and colleagues as required.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Demonstrable managed services sales experience, including leading complex, multi-tower managed services opportunities.
  • A strong understanding of the managed services market, sourcing strategies and the relationship between insourcing, co-sourcing, outsourcing and managed services models.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with demonstrable experience operating as a trusted advisor and influencing stakeholders at C-suite level.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including focused qualification, competitive mitigation and the ability to build compelling proposals that meet customer return on investment and total cost of ownership requirements.
  • Leading and leveraging large virtual teams

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Industry and market knowledge, including awareness of competitor offerings and emerging technologies.
  • Experience in complex, regulated enterprise environments, such as financial services.
  • Telecommunications industry experience and awareness of managed services accreditations and methodologies.
