As Senior 3D Animator, you’ll lead the motion design and animation output for your assigned brand. Reporting into the Principal Creative, you’ll bring ideas to life through engaging motion work and ensure high‑quality animated content is delivered consistently across all channels and platforms.

What you’ll be doing

Animation Leadership & Direction

  • Champion animation craft and the power of motion storytelling within the agency

Team & Partner Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with external animation partners, studios, and freelancers
  • Select appropriate animation partners based on project requirements, style, and budget

  • Ensure animation work meets brand guidelines while exploring creative possibilities
  • Troubleshoot animation challenges and find creative solutions within constraints

Creative & Technical Direction

  • Develop storyboards and animatics that visualize how concepts will work in motion
  • Provide art direction on animation style, movement, timing, and aesthetics
  • Make decisions on animation techniques - 2D, 3D, motion graphics, frame-by-frame, etc.

Brand Stewardship

  • Drive the consistency, quality, and evolution of our brand’s motion design by safeguarding animation standards, developing scalable motion systems, and ensuring all movement expresses our brand’s personality.

Collaboration & Workflow

  • Collaborate with creative, design, copy, social, project, production and account teams to deliver animations that align with brand vision and meet channel, narrative and delivery needs.

Production Management & Supplier Relations

  • Manage external animation partners end to end — sourcing talent, negotiating budgets, ensuring quality delivery, and overseeing all financial and administrative processes.

Innovation & Inspiration

  • Stay current on animation trends, techniques, and emerging technologies
  • Experiment with new animation tools, software, or approaches
  • Explore emerging technologies like AI animation tools, real-time rendering, etc.

The skills and experience you'll have under your belt

Essential Experience

  • Strong experience in animation, motion design, or motion graphic
  • Experience leading or mentoring animation teams, or taking the lead on animation production.
  • A strong portfolio that showcases excellent animation craft across different styles, formats, and channels.
  • Confidence working with external partners such as animation studios, freelancers, or production teams.
  • Experience contributing to integrated campaigns that use animation across digital, social, retail, or broadcast.
  • Exposure to major consumer brands — experience in telecoms or tech is a bonus, not a requirement.

Highly Desirable

  • Skills across both 2D and 3D animation.
  • Experience shaping motion design systems or brand animation guidelines.
  • Understanding of animation best practice for social and digital first platforms.
  • Curiosity for emerging tools and technologies (e.g., AI assisted animation, real time engines).
  • Experience combining animated content with live action footage.

Professional Development

  • A commitment to ongoing development — whether through courses, workshops, self learning, or participation in the animation community.
  • Engagement with new trends, tools, and industry thinking.

About us

BT Group was the world’s first telco and our heritage in the sector is unrivalled. As home to several of the UK’s most recognised and cherished brands – BT, EE, Openreach and Plusnet, we have always played a critical role in creating the future, and we have reached an inflection point in the transformation of our business.

Over the next two years, we will complete the UK’s largest and most successful digital infrastructure project – connecting more than 25 million premises to full fibre broadband. Together with our heavy investment in 5G, we play a central role in revolutionising how people connect with each other.

While we are through the most capital-intensive phase of our fibre investment, meaning we can reward our shareholders for their commitment and patience, we are absolutely focused on how we organise ourselves in the best way to serve our customers in the years to come. This includes radical simplification of systems, structures, and processes on a huge scale. Together with our application of AI and technology, we are on a path to creating the UK’s best telco, reimagining the customer experience and relationship with one of this country’s biggest infrastructure companies.

Change on the scale we will all experience in the coming years is unprecedented. BT Group is committed to being the driving force behind improving connectivity for millions and there has never been a more exciting time to join a company and leadership team with the skills, experience, creativity, and passion to take this company into a new era.
