Salary:  £38,500 – £51,400 per annum

Job Title: Governance & Assurance Advisor (Pay & Reward)

Location: Preston. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Circa £44,000

What you’ll be doing:

  • Guide and direct the Pay & Reward team in respect of control awareness and ownership to embed an improved and sustainable control and assurance culture

  • Maintain and develop the robustness of the Pay & Reward Risk and Control matrix to ensure it accurately reflects the Pay & Reward operating environment and addresses potential risk in the end-to-end processes

  • Manage and monitor the control owner self-assessment process and actively drive effective issue resolution, through to process confirmation and closure

  • Undertake and lead on specific projects in support of the Pay & Reward Team and manage the delivery of the associated activities

  • Support the team in the effective review of defects and errors to determine the root cause, agree preventative control measures and track actions through to completion

  • Support the development and implementation of the required policies and frameworks, in line with the Operational Framework

  • Facilitate and support internal and external Pay & Reward reviews/audits and the associated recommendations, including the Senior Accounting Officer certification for Employment Taxes

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Part or fully qualified in a recognised financial qualification e.g. CIMA, ACA, ACCA, AAT

  • Depth of understanding and demonstrable experience in the application and assurance of a financial control framework

  • Familiarity with risk management, audit processes and good corporate governance

  • Effective communicator, able to build rapport and trust with all levels of stakeholder

  • Able to approach new tasks and issues constructively and ardently

Desirable:

  • Proven experience with analytical/problem solving/decision making skills

  • An understanding of Payroll processes and associated legislation

The Pay & Reward Governance & Assurance team:

The Governance & Assurance team is small in size yet plays a significant role in the Pay & Reward team, within Shared Services. We collaborate closely with our Operations, Systems, Reporting and Change teams, to facilitate and support a robust control environment. This extends to building relationships with our Finance partners, Group Reward, Tax, HR, Pensions and Audit teams. The team need to be inquisitive to understand and identify areas of risk. We are empowered to prioritise remediation and improvement opportunities and have the directive to define and influence process design.
