Full-time, with flexibility for part-time

Hybrid / Lincoln

Anglian Water offers a flexible approach; this role gives you the flexibility to work from home and from our Lincoln office.

Lead resilient infrastructure platforms. Strengthen core services. Enable reliable digital and operational delivery.

In this Platform Engineering Manager role, you’ll lead the infrastructure-focused side of Anglian Water’s platform engineering capability, spanning cloud, on-premise infrastructure and Operational Technology environments.

You’ll be responsible for the design, build and continual improvement of core infrastructure platform services, including cloud and hosting platforms, compute, storage, infrastructure automation and infrastructure-as-code capabilities.

You’ll make sure these services are reliable, secure, observable, well-governed and aligned to agreed architecture and operational standards.

Working closely with Infrastructure & Operations, Technology, Cyber, Product, System and Value teams and delivery partners, you’ll translate business and operational needs into infrastructure platform capabilities, reusable patterns and automation that reduce risk and improve service resilience.

It’s a leadership role with real influence, offering the opportunity to strengthen infrastructure engineering practice, improve service-aware operations by design and support the critical digital and operational services Anglian Water depends on for customers, communities and the environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading the design, build and continual improvement of secure, resilient and scalable infrastructure platform services across cloud, on-premise and OT environments within our defined standards

  • Owning infrastructure platform outcomes for reliability, security, performance, capacity, lifecycle and operational supportability

  • Defining infrastructure patterns, standards and automation pipelines that enable repeatable, compliant and efficient delivery

  • Driving adoption of infrastructure-as-code, cloud platform capability, self-service infrastructure and automation across IT and OT environments

  • Translating business, operational and delivery requirements into infrastructure platform solutions that reduce risk and improve resilience

  • Ensuring infrastructure platform services are observable, supportable and designed for performance, availability, security and service-aware operations

  • Leading, coaching and inspiring your team, fostering a culture of accountability, wellbeing, inclusion and high performance

  • Managing outsourced infrastructure and platform service partners to ensure consistent quality, adherence to standards and joint ownership of outcomes

What does it take to be a Platform Engineering Manager?

We’re looking for a technical and people leader who combines strong platform engineering experience with a deep understanding of infrastructure services. You’ll be a clear communicator and problem-solver with a focus on reliability, security, automation, lifecycle management, service resilience and continuous improvement.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering or infrastructure service delivery

  • Strong knowledge of cloud and on-premise infrastructure patterns, including compute, storage, hosting and operational support considerations

  • Skilled in Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform, ARM or Bicep

  • Experience defining automation, standards and repeatable infrastructure delivery practices

  • Experience managing infrastructure reliability, security, performance, capacity and lifecycle outcomes

  • Familiarity with CI/CD, containerisation or orchestration technologies would be useful, particularly where they support infrastructure platform delivery

  • Experience working with service management, operational governance and managed service partners

  • Experience supporting critical systems or operational environments, ideally including OT or regulated infrastructure

  • Experience leading a team of engineers and managing delivery through others

  • The role requires CTC security clearance, or the ability to obtain it

  • Degree in a technology or computing discipline – desirable

  • Certifications in Cloud platforms - desirable

As a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to:

  • Full private healthcare with no excess

  • 26 days leave, rising with service + Bank Holidays, with the option to swap Christmas and Easter holidays for those celebrated by your religion

  • A flexible working culture

  • Competitive pension scheme – we double-match your contributions up to 7%

  • Life Assurance at eight times your salary

  • Personal Accident cover – up to 5x your salary

  • Bonus Scheme

Why Apply?

Apply to lead the infrastructure-focused platform services that underpin Anglian Water’s digital and operational capability. You’ll help improve resilience, security, automation and lifecycle management, enabling teams to deliver quickly, safely and reliably for the customers, communities and environment we serve.
