We’re looking for a talented Data Scientist to join our growing Data Science Function, where you’ll play a key role in delivering innovative, data-driven solutions that enable smarter, faster decision-making across the business.
As an established Data Scientist, you’ll work on a diverse range of impactful projects, applying advanced analytical techniques to solve complex challenges. You’ll not only develop high-quality data science products, but also bring insights to life—ensuring your work is clearly communicated and drives real business value.
This is an exciting opportunity to further develop your expertise, expand your technical skillset, and collaborate with a supportive team that’s passionate about using data responsibly and effectively. You’ll also have the chance to share your knowledge, supporting and guiding others as we continue to build data science capability across Anglian Water.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll design and deliver data science solutions that turn complex data into actionable insights, using techniques such as statistical analysis, modelling, and optimisation. From sourcing and preparing data through to building, testing, and deploying models, you’ll play an end-to-end role in creating impactful data products.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll collaborate closely with Data Engineers and other Data Scientists to ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and embedded effectively within the business. You’ll also contribute to improving data practices by developing reusable processes and identifying opportunities to enhance how data is used.
Alongside your technical work, you’ll support the growth of data science capability across the organisation—sharing best practice, engaging with stakeholders to promote the value of data science, and continuing to develop your own skills while staying up to date with emerging trends and ethical standards.
As a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to:
Personal private health care
26 days annual leave – rising with length of service
Flexible working
Competitive pension scheme – Anglian Water double-matches your contributions up to 6%
Bonus scheme
Flexible benefits to support your wellbeing and lifestyle.
What does it take to be a Data Scientist?
We’re looking for candidates with a minimum of two years’ experience working in a data science or closely related analytical role. During this time, you should have gained hands‑on experience applying data science techniques in a commercial or operational environment, developing models, working with complex datasets, and delivering insights that drive meaningful business outcomes. This experience should be supported by a portfolio of work demonstrating your technical capability and practical impact.
A qualification at Level 6 or higher (i.e. BSc or higher) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related quantitative field, or equivalent work experience.
A portfolio of data science solutions that you have developed within a commercial environment/application, and an ability to articulate the process and outcomes.
Experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in the relevant domain area in support of a departmental and/or multi-departmental data management and analytics initiative.
Experience in applying scripting languages such as Python to deliver business benefit.
Experience in applying popular database programming languages such as SQL to deliver business benefit.
Experience working with popular data discovery, analytics, and BI software tools like PowerBI for semantic-layer-based data discovery.
Experience using cloud architectures such as Microsoft Azure and Databricks.
Knowledge of the basics of software development and analytical methods, and an ability to develop data science models.
Working knowledge of the water industry, or relevant engineering domain.
We’re looking for a collaborative and curious Data Scientist with experience applying a range of techniques, including machine learning, to solve real-world problems. You’ll be confident working with data end-to-end—preparing, analysing, and turning it into meaningful insights—and comfortable contributing to shared codebases within modern delivery environments.
A strong communicator, you can clearly explain the value of data science to both technical and non-technical audiences. You enjoy working as part of a team, sharing best practice, and supporting others, while also taking ownership of your work and continuously developing your skills.
You bring an awareness of data ethics and relevant legislation, alongside a proactive mindset—embracing new ways of working, challenging constructively, and championing the use of data and digital to drive positive change.
Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to work on meaningful, real-world challenges where your work will have a direct impact on customers, communities, and the environment. At Anglian Water, data is at the heart of how we innovate and improve, giving you the chance to see your insights translated into tangible outcomes at scale.
You’ll join a growing and supportive Data Science Function, where collaboration, learning, and knowledge-sharing are actively encouraged. Whether it’s developing your technical expertise, exploring new tools and techniques, or building your influence as a data professional, you’ll be supported to grow your career.
We also place a strong emphasis on doing the right thing—working responsibly with data, embracing ethical practices, and creating a culture where new ideas are welcomed. If you’re looking for a role where you can make a difference, develop your skills, and be part of a forward-thinking team, this is the place to do it.
