Who are we
At Veygo our world is learner and temporary pay-as-you-go car insurance. We know people’s lifestyles are changing and our pay-as-you-go insurance provides our customers with flexible cover by the hour, day or week, so they can get cover when they need it, and not when they don’t. We’re proud to have over 1 million customers and to be backed by Admiral Group, voted Best UK Car Insurance Provider six years in a row by The Personal Finance Awards.
About the Role
As a Data Engineer you’ll scale the way data powers Veygo. Our engineering teams are encouraged to be full-stack in mindset, breaking down silos and working across the entire data landscape to deliver meaningful outcomes for customers and colleagues alike.
Data is central to decision-making, product development, and operational performance. You’ll work closely with software engineers, analysts, and teams across marketing, claims, finance and more, helping to build scalable, reliable, and efficient data solutions.
A typical day could involve optimising ETL pipelines in Matillion, designing data models in Snowflake, improving observability and governance, or managing cloud-based infrastructure in AWS.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance on data architecture, pipeline design, and optimisation to support scalable and reliable data solutions.
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines to ensure efficient ingestion and transformation of data.
- Design and optimise data models to support analytics, reporting, and real-time decision-making.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data is embedded into product and business initiatives from the outset.
- Improve data quality and observability through monitoring, logging, and lineage tracking best practices.
- Champion engineering standards including automated testing, CI/CD, and effective data governance.
- Support and troubleshoot production data pipelines, identifying opportunities to improve performance and resilience.
- Deploy and maintain secure, scalable cloud-based data infrastructure within AWS.
- Share knowledge through mentoring, paired working, and collaborative learning sessions.
About You
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in a Data Engineering role.
- Strong SQL skills with experience designing efficient and scalable data models.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake and Matillion.
- Experience working within cloud-based environments, ideally AWS.
- Good understanding of ETL/ELT methodologies and data warehousing best practices.
- Experience using Python or other scripting languages.
- Experience supporting real-time or near real-time data solutions.
- Experience improving data observability and monitoring capabilities.
- Exposure to CI/CD practices within data engineering environments.
- Understanding of data governance, security, and best practices within modern data platforms.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex technical challenges.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
- Comfortable mentoring others and working in a collaborative engineering environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to improving performance and reliability.
- Passion for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
