Job Description

Role purpose:
To sustainably ensure the quality of M-Pesa’s distribution network, promote the commercial relationship, providing aggregators and super Agents with high level of satisfaction through quality of service according to their level of exigence and M-Pesa normative. Take responsibility for the management of the business capital under his territory; Monitor operational risks and ensure compliance with the regulations and procedures.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

• Stakeholder management: manage conflicts and incidents; Implement initiatives to continuously improve the Knowledge, understanding and implementation of AML and compliance controls topics within the stakeholders ( CBU, aggregators, super agents, local authorities etc) ensuring that the procedures and tools are and will be applied and used in accordance with the normative and regulations.
• Monitor operational and reputational risk by Implementing controls to continuously reduce the level of frauds and selling of till within the network/market.
• Monitor aggregators (and their agents) performance and propose strategies to improve their liquidity and transaction volumes mainly on the clusters under development ensuring that aggregators meet the established KPI’s.
• Ensure uniformity of financial services best practices and contribute to agents and merchants network long term growth and efficiency;
• Plan, organize and deliver effective regional meetings and trainings as necessary to the aggregators and CBU team.


Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

• Commercially astute and strategically oriented – solid understanding of market, competitor & customer. Solid understanding of the integrated set of products and services included within the M-Pesa portfolio; able to identify opportunities for M-Pesa and structure initiatives to transform these opportunities into reality.
• Strong Analytical skills and presentation skills – able to assess reports, identify issues, root cause, and recommend solutions. Expert spread sheet skills a distinct advantage.
• Inspirational Leadership – develop and maintain great working environment throughout all levels of the M-Pesa organization.


Must have technical / professional qualifications:

• University degree in a Commercial related area.
• A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a management role within a commercial function covering distribution and/or retail network management.
• Proven people management and motivational skills
• Knowledge and experience of the financial services and telecommunications industries will be an advantage.
• Strong planning and networking skills.
• Ability to draft, continuously review and enforce policies and procedures to improve division’s efficiency and effectiveness.


Key performance indicators:

• Number of active M-Pesa agents, transactions volumes and commissions generated per aggregators.
• Nr. Of incidents which can generate a reputational or financial risk/loss to the company;
• Nr. Of agents complaints;
