Job Description

Role purpose

To manage and control M-Pesa finance operations by ensuring accurate accounting, reconciliation, financial reporting, and compliance with IFRS, local GAAP (GSEC/OHADA), Group Accounting policies, and Central Bank requirements, while maintaining the integrity of financial data and supporting business performance monitoring.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership

  • Manage accounting activities in SAP in line with IFRS and local reporting (GSEC/OHADA) requirements.
  • Oversee revenue and cost tracking for M-Pesa, ensuring accurate recognition and allocation of direct costs, Opex, commissions, and partner revenue shares.
  • Monitor all costs processed through EVO and validate correctness, completeness, and proper classification.
  • Prepare, review, and analyse M-Pesa P&L by tracking revenues and expenses, ensuring timely and accurate journal postings and adjustments.
  • Validate commissions payable to partners, agents, and aggregators, ensuring they align with contractual terms and actual performance.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations for all key accounts (AR, AP, revenue, accrued expenses, intercompany, and control accounts).
  • Reconcile all M-Pesa operational bank and cash accounts to the general ledger and investigate any variances.
  • Review standalone M-Pesa financial statements for accuracy, consistency, and compliance before submission to management.
  • Maintain and ensure proper access and use of BICP, MDF, and G2 reporting systems for financial analysis and data validation.
  • Serve as key interface for both internal and external auditors on all M-Pesa financial reporting matters.
  • Prepare and submit financial and statistical reports to the Central Bank (BCC) in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure full adherence to Group Accounting policies, IFRS standards, and local regulatory frameworks.
  • Support internal and external audits related to Trust governance, AML, and e-money regulations.
  • Implement and strengthen internal controls around trust fund movements to mitigate fraud, leakage, or regulatory breaches.

Job Knowledge

  • Proficiency in SAP and EVO systems
  • Experience with BICP, MDF, and G2 platforms
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting tools

Job Experience

  • Minimum 5–10 years in Treasury, Trust, or Financial Control roles
  • Experience in mobile money, banking or fintech environment preferred
  • Strong background in P&L reporting, reconciliations, and cost management
  • Prior exposure to external and internal audits

Must have technical / professional qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics
  • Professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent) is an advantage
