The Vodafone Internet of Things (IoT) suite of products and services are designed specifically to meet the needs of new and evolving business verticals. Its connection base has grown 20 % per YoY to reach more than 225 million connections at the beginning of 2026. Vodafone IoT is a leader in the IoT Connectivity Gartner Magic quadrant and has been for 11 consecutive years. To fulfil the Technology requirements of IoT, Vodafone has developed its own world leading IoT Connectivity Management Platform to target the key strategic growth opportunity specifically to meet the needs of IoT customers globally.


Vodafone has also carved out the IoT Connectivity business to secure additional external investment and maintain our leading position in the industry through the following.
- Continue accelerating and enhancing our Platform as a Service for Vodafone customers on footprint.
- Launch service proposition in markets that are off Vodafone’s current footprint (US and France).
- Address long tail lower volume segment through digital self-service platform globally.

What you’ll do

We are looking for an IoT Infrastructure Engineer to join the IoT Platform Engineering organisation. The successful candidate will join the Cloud Engineering and Infrastructure Enablement team, which is accountable to enable the foundations of the IoT Global Connectivity platform, guaranteeing strategic evolution, operational excellence, and cost optimisation of infrastructure and database services, enabling the Hyperconnect modernisation programme and supporting Vodafone’s ambition for global IoT leadership.

The role holder main responsibilities will be:

Cloud Adoption & Solution Delivery

    • Partner with product, platform, and application teams to adopt cloud infrastructure and platform services
    • Design and implement secure, scalable cloud solutions across IaaS and PaaS
    • Translate requirements into clear designs, delivery plans, and reusable implementation patterns
    • Explain trade-offs and recommend when cloud is (and is not) the best solution
    • Deliver non-functional requirements: high availability, disaster recovery, data protection, and performance
    • Plan and execute resilience activities (e.g., DR tests, performance tests, scenario/tabletop exercises)
    • Continuously improve service continuity and operational standards across environments
    • Work with security specialists to design, implement, and validate security controls
    • Ensure engineering work aligns with security configuration guidance and compliance requirements
    • Embed security into infrastructure patterns, pipelines, and operational processes

Platform Engineering & Automation

    • Build and improve infrastructure platforms and shared capabilities used by multiple teams
    • Automate delivery using IaC, configuration-as-code, policy-as-code, and CI/CD pipelines
    • Create reusable modules, templates, and deployment artifacts ready for production use
    • Identify and remove toil through automation and standardization
    • Lead initiatives, influence standards, and raise cloud engineering capability across teams
    • Coach and mentor other colleagues; share knowledge through concise documentation and practical training
    • Collaborate closely with SREs and product engineers to deliver well-architected, supportable platforms
    • Engage third-party suppliers and vendor support as the technical lead when needed
  • Engineering drive & operational excellence, overseeing the full lifecycle of infrastructure and database assets, ensuring reliability, scalability and security.
  • Provide experts knowledge on cloud infrastructure and platforms, to ensure our organisation achieves its goals for cloud adoption
  • Design, build, deliver, maintain, and improve infrastructure solutions which includes automation strategies such as Infrastructure-as-code, Configuration-as-code, Policy-as-code, release orchestration and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and collaborative ways of working (e.g., DevOps).
  • Own and optimise cloud and on-premises infrastructure, improving inventory and proactive cost management.
  • Work closely with the rest of the IoT Platform Engineering team, Product teams, Network engineering and Security teams to ensure seamless alignment and delivery.
  • Manage supplier and partner relationships, ensuring getting the right support to achieve our business goals.

Who you are

  • Strong hands on experience with AWS, designing and operating production cloud environments.
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in IT infrastructure and database management, both on-premises and in the cloud.
  • Technical certifications in Cloud and/or database technologies
  • Deep understanding of IaaS, PaaS, scalable architectures, APIs, and microservices.
  • Familiar with cloud provider frameworks (e.g. Well Architected) and architecture artifacts.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and automation using Terraform, Packer.
  • Proven use of CI/CD and DevOps tooling (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub/GitLab).
  • Comfortable scripting and automating workflows using Python and shell scripting.
  • Experience with container platforms including Docker and Kubernetes (EKS preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of cloud networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, NACLs, VPNs, peering, transit gateways, and egress cost optimization.
  • Experience implementing cloud security controls, encryption, and key management services.
  • Proven ability to design for resilience, including multi AZ and multi region architectures, backup and recovery.
  • Comfortable supporting incident response, root cause analysis, and operational improvements.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Experience working on geographically distributed teams and interacting and managing stakeholders in multiple markets and verticals.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with operational execution.
