Single RAN Access System Engineer

Job Description

Role purpose:

As Single RAN Access system Engineer you will be part of the global Mobile Access Engineering organization unit that aims to deliver the superiority of our Mobile Network design by the best and most innovative design, engineering and optimisation and implementation across Vodafone.

You will be part of a highly skilled, dynamic multinational environment with the goal to define the details of our Mobile Access Network architectures, Radio solutions and configuration across the different markets where Vodafone operates or have partnership agreement.

As part of the team you will be responsible for the correct planning and execution of the Radio SW Product Verification and Integration for all the Radio Technologies with special focus on Nokia Radio supplier.
Design, engineering and optimisation of the Radio product are the key element to deliver the Best Network and Best Connectivity Experience for our customer: you will play a pivotal role to reach that goal !

As system RAN Access System Engineer you will deal with the cutting-edge Radio technologies and promote research and innovations for our Future Radio networks, with special focus and automation, software defined networks, energy efficiency and ultra reliable networks.

You will learn the challenging aspects of operating, building and evolving a RAN network as well as how the new technologies like 5G, virtualisation, AI/ML and Open RAN will shape for future of the connectivity services for world around us.

You will be also involved in several projects, including research activities part of the RESTART program where Vodafone is an affiliated partner. In this program you will interact with partners, university and telco companies to support the mission of the project

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:


• Support the evolution of out Radio Networks by designing and introducing new radio solutions and capabilities.

• Manage and oversee the Product Verification and integration activities ensuring the proper planning and execution.

• Support definition of the next-generation technologies and capabilities in our Radio networks.

• Ensure the exploitation of the innovations and automations in the new product introduction and verifications.

• Support Restart program activities and introduce related findings in our networks.

Key performance indicators:


• Successfully deliver introduction of high performance, cost-efficient Radio solution

• Successfully deliver zero-defects Radio solutions

• Meet or exceed automation and innovations in our network, with special focus in SW defines networks.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:


• Good knowledge of wireless technologies.

• Knowledge of 3GPP radio access technologies (2G, 4G, 5G) and protocols.

• Knowledge about OpenRAN and SW defined networks concepts.

• Ability to learn and manage of complex technologies.

• Knowledge of main programming languages (e.g Python, SQL)

• Knowledge of AI/ML technologies.

• Coordinating suppliers, engage with peers and other stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of the projects.

• Ability to interact and technically negotiate with suppliers.

Must have technical / professional qualifications:


• Degree in Telecommunication/Electronics engineering

• Good awareness of wider technology aspects in telecommunications and ICT

• Knowledge of 3GPP Radio Protocols

• Experience in testing and product verifications is considered a plus

• Ability to work in team.

• Ability to meet the deadline and project definitions, supported by good decision making skills
