Job Description

Role Purpose

Responsible for Level-2 operational support, architecture assurance, and security posture management of AWS cloud network and security platforms supporting Vodafone enterprise and telecom workloads.

Key Accountabilities

Security

  • Design and implement secure AWS cloud network architectures
  • Support evolution of cloud security platforms and services
  • Ensure compliance with security standards (ISO 27001, SOC2, HIPAA)
  • Implement Zero Trust, SASE, ZTNA, and SSE frameworks
  • Support hybrid (on-prem + cloud) and multi-environment architectures
  • FortiGate Firewall & AWS VPN, IPS, Antivirus, Web Filtering & Application Control

Network

  • Design and support classical network security architectures
  • Operate and secure firewalls, proxies, IDS/IPS solutions
  • Manage legacy and hybrid network security environments
  • Drive lifecycle upgrades and security improvements

Key Performance Indicators

Network & Security Operations (L2)

  • Act as L3 escalation point for cloud network & security incidents
  • Investigate alerts and lead incident response
  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Maintain security monitoring tools and dashboards

Automation & Orchestration

  • Automate security operations using scripting and tooling
  • Integrate security platforms with AWS services
  • Improve response time through automation and SOAR capabilities

Collaboration & Agile Delivery

  • Work with platform and application teams to embed security in SDLC
  • Collaborate with network vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Communicate risks and recommendations to leadership
  • Support Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and release readiness

Threat Modelling & Risk Assessment

  • Perform threat modelling and risk assessments
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing support
  • Develop and track risk mitigation plans
  • Support audits and regulatory assessments

Core Competencies, Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience as an AWS Network & Security Engineer
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Technical Expertise:

  • Extensive Fortinet experience (FortiGate firewalls, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer)
  • Strong understanding of IP networking (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), switching (Layer 2/3), MPLS, and network architecture principles
  • Familiarity with security protocols (SSL, IPsec, VPN, 802.1x, IDS)
  • Experience managing firewalls in hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
  • Securing cloud infrastructure components (VPCs, Security Groups, NAT gateways)
  • Certifications: Fortinet NSE 4/5/7 (highly desirable), CISSP, CCNP Security, Palo Alto PCNSE (plus)

Must-Have Technical / Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • 8+ years’ experience in AWS Network & Security
  • Certification in relevant database technologies (preferred)
  • Strong AWS networking (VPC, TGW, Direct Connect, VPN)
  • AWS security services (Security Hub, GuardDuty, IAM)
  • Fortigate Firewall & network security appliances
  • Threat detection and incident response
  • L3 operations and production support experience
  • Scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Monitoring and alerting (PMM, Prometheus/Grafana, CloudWatch)
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and compliance (GDPR, PCI-DSS, SOC2, HIPAA)

    Nice-to-Have Skills

    • SASE / ZTNA implementation experience
    • Automation (Python, Lambda)
    • Exposure to SIEM/SOAR platforms
    • Experience in telecom or large-scale enterprise environments

    Soft Skills

    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset
    • Calm under pressure in major incidents
    • Stakeholder communication skills
    • Security-by-design mindset
