Job Description

We have a new opportunity at Virgin Media O2 for a Transmission Support Manager!

Based within Network Operations our multi-disciplinary team provides a tertiary support function for the platforms and connectivity we support.

The Transmission Operations Manager role has responsibility for the management of a skilled team of engineers who look after complex transmission solutions that underpin the mobile and fixed networks, providing expert level support and delivering innovative solutions to complex problems and faults. This includes XGS-PON, DWDM, National High Capacity Network, B2B, Wholesale, Mobile & Small Cell Backhaul Transmission (5G, 4G, 2G), Microwave and the legacy SDH/TDM Network.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Line management of a team of engineers ensuring they are supported to work to the best of their abilities.
  • Proactively identify and drive improvements in service & cost saving initiatives
  • experience of using of automation and AI technologies in a Networks environment.
  • Management and escalation point for technical incidents
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to Team and NMC's
  • Support initiatives to evolve and upgrade the network, ensuring no impact to end service through strong collaboration with Projects and Change Teams.

Flexibility with working hours is required in the event of a major incident. This role will also include the occasional call out.

The must haves

In order to be considered, you must have the following experience:

  • A good understanding of fixed and mobile transmission networks, services and products. Specifically XGS-PON, DWDM, Mobile Backhaul and Microwave
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to resolve complex technical and non technical issues
  • Managerial experience from a telecommunications/IT background
  • Experience working in a technical capacity for either an operator or vendor
  • Experience working with ITIL methodology and meeting SLAs

  • Ability to analyse, understand and present complex data in easy to understand terms through reports, graphs and presentations
  • Ability to motivate, coach and manage a team to perform to the highest standards
  • Excellent communication skills with a service-centric approach
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Understanding of regulatory bodies and stipulations such as OFCOM, GDPR & TSA
