Job Description

The AI Security Architect will lead the design and implementation of robust security architectures, standards, and governance frameworks for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI (GenAI), AI-powered applications, agents, copilots, and enterprise environments.

This role requires a deep understanding of AI security, AI governance, cloud-native security, application security, data security, and enterprise security technologies. You will work closely with product teams, AI engineering teams, developers, security engineers, DevSecOps, legal, risk, and operations teams to ensure security is embedded throughout the application lifecycle, from solution design and vendor selection to deployment, operation, and ongoing monitoring. The role will define secure AI architecture patterns, provide security oversight for AI initiatives, and enable responsible AI adoption aligned with organisational policies and industry frameworks.

Reporting to the Enterprise Security Architect and collaborating with stakeholders, such as the Head of Cyber Security, BISOs and Solutions Architects, you will assist in promoting a harmonised security architecture via standards, patterns, and tooling.

Who we are

At Virgin Media O₂, we connect people to the moments that matter most. Virgin Media leads the UK for broadband reliability, speed and overall performance, while O₂ keeps people connected on the move with award-winning coverage.

We’re also proud to be named one of the Financial Times Top 500 Best Employers for 2026, based on one of the UK’s largest employee satisfaction surveys.

Join us and you’ll be part of a team that stays curious, positive and focused on making life easier for our customers and each other. We’re investing in the future of connectivity, from expanding next-generation 5G to exploring satellite-supported solutions that help reach rural communities and hard-to-connect places.

You’ll work with people who back good ideas and give you plenty of room to grow. So if you’re looking for a place where you can feel supported, trusted and genuinely valued, you’ll feel right at home here.

Our ways of working

We’re a flexible-first organisation, because we know people do their best work when they have choice and clarity. To support meaningful collaboration, we ask everyone to spend at least eight days a month connecting with each other in person.

That doesn’t just mean time in the office – it could be team meetings, offsites, volunteering days, cross-functional projects, or away days. What matters is making those moments count – so when we come together, it benefits everyone.

Accessible, inclusive and equitable for all

We believe a better tomorrow starts with the choices we make today. That means moving the dial on diversity, building equity into everything we do and putting inclusion at the heart of our business.

Virgin Media O₂ is an equal opportunities employer and we work hard to remove bias and barriers. We want every person who joins us – and everyone thinking about joining us – to feel seen, heard and supported.

When you work with us, you’ll have access to our award-winning employee network groups. These communities bring people together, champion allyship and create uplifting spaces where you can learn, share and feel part of something bigger. They play a big role in helping people feel connected from day one.

The must haves

In order to be considered, you must have the following experience

• Extensive hands-on experience with Threat Modelling, SAST, DAST, and web application security.

• Strong knowledge of OWASP Top 10, CWE Top 25, and SANS Top 25 security vulnerabilities.

• Hands-on experience with GCP security architecture, including IAM, VPC, Cloud KMS, Cloud Armor, and other cloud-native security tools.

• Strong understanding of data security practices, including encryption, access control, data security controls, and AI security standards.

• Up-to-date knowledge of cybersecurity threats, risk assessment methodologies, and industry frameworks/regulations, including GDPR, PCI DSS, NIST, and ISO 27001.

• Proven experience in requirements gathering and identification, solution testing, and vendor product evaluation and selection.

• Demonstrated leadership and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to build consensus across diverse teams.

• Highly self-motivated, with the ability to confidently advocate for risk management and security requirements to senior executives using tact and persistence.

• Strategic mindset with the flexibility to operate tactically when required.

• Strong negotiation, facilitation, and consensus-building skills, with a results-oriented approach.

• Ability to build effective relationships and interact confidently at all levels of the organisation.

The other stuff we are looking for

We would also like you to bring:

  • Intellectual curiosity and a continuous learning mindset, with a passion for staying ahead of emerging AI technologies, security threats, and industry best practices.
  • A collaborative and influential approach, with the ability to build trust, challenge constructively, and drive positive security outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups

What's in it for you

Our goal is to celebrate our people, their lives and everything in-between. We aim to create a culture that empowers everyone to bring the best versions of themselves to work each and every day. We believe the most inclusive and diverse culture makes for a better business and a brighter world. Working at Virgin Media O2, you get a bumper reward package bursting with benefits, and loads of extras you can add if you’d like to. These are designed to support both you and your loved ones, making sure that you’re covered no matter what life throws your way.

Next steps

If we feel like a place where you can belong, we'd love to learn more about you as a person and your experience to date. Once you've submitted an application the next steps of the process, if successful, are likely to include a Saville assessment, competency based interview with case study. When you apply, you'll be asked about any adjustments you might need to support the recruitment process. Let us know, and we'll be sure to discuss it with you. Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert, therefore we may bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as possible. If you’re offered a job with us, it will be conditional, based on the passing of background checks. All roles require a criminal record check and some roles need a financial probity check. Your recruiter can provide you with more information if needed.
